"Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will by no means pass away."

Luke 21:33 and Matthew 24:35

What happens with the believers' promised eternal life when both Heaven and Earth have passed away?

So the bible is the truth?
Question Author
No, the Bible is a load of rubbish written down by arrogant ignorant misogynists too.

The Old Testament also repeats ancient mythology.

The New Testament is a work of fiction written specifically to "fulfill" the prophecies of the Old Testament. Jesus was no more real then Harry Potter.
sacha.86, //So the bible is the truth? //

No, that's superstitious nonsense too.... but I'm curious. Why do you think any religious book has to be the truth?
royfromaus, //His parents were both committed Christians and wanted their children to believe, too.//

That says it all. I have to wonder what the little boy's alleged experiences would have been had he never been taught about God or Jesus.

Question Author
Not just committed Christians but his father is a priest who has made a fortune from the book and now movie rights.

It would be very easy to coach a four year old to build on the hallucinations he had as a result of the combination of drug, a near death experience and a life of scriptural indoctrination.

Even if he ever doubted his own story he certainly won't now.

I also note how the father won't reveal how much he has made from the story but claims to have given most of it away to "starving children". I would love to see that claim audited.
Me too.
Graham...the ' refurbishment' is to be done by the ' great crowd' living on the earth...with Jehovah's help.
(Revelation 7:9) After this I saw, and look! a great crowd, which no man was able to number, out of all nations and tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, dressed in white robes; and there were palm branches in their hands.

(Psalm 37:29) The righteous will possess the earth, And they will live forever on it.

Question Author
(Psalm 37:29) The righteous will possess the earth, And they will live forever on it.

This conflicts starkly with Luke 21:33 and Matthew 24:35
"Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will by no means pass away."

At least one of the claims is wrong. Which is it?

If one claim in the Bible is shown to be wrong then the whole edifice collapses. Clearly the Bible is not the work of a supernatural deity but rather a collection of old stories made up by men.
Beso. Although the old earth and heavens pass away, they will be refurbished and be like new. ( the bible says). It also says certain people ascended into heaven so more contradictions there as well.

Revelation 21:1
Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more.
Then it goes on to say that Heaven will be on Earth in the New Jerusalem.

Revelation 21:1-5
Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Also he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”
So you all take an interest in spirituality and religion... So what is it you actually believe then?
A good question sacha, and one I've been asking for years on here to no avail. Why do they spend so much time talking about God when they don't believe in such an existence ? I think it might be that they think they are a lot smarter than those who think otherwise, or it could be based on an insecurity requiring the approbation of the like minded, - a sort of whistling in the dark.
To the eternal question 'Why' ?
There is an equally simple answer 'Because' !
sacha.86, //So what is it you actually believe then?//

I can tell you what I don't believe. Religion.

Khandro, //A good question sacha, and one I've been asking for years on here to no avail.//

Not true as you well know. The answer to that has been posted here countless times.
//The answer to that has been posted here countless times.//
and that is? Please try to think of something better than the specious and clichéd; "Because of all the harm it does".
sacha. I don't believe in a God, but I do like to understand why some people do. Why have we got so many choices when it comes to religion? Judaism, Islam, Buddhism and a myriad of different flavours of Christianity. How can anyone be pretentious enough to say, "This is the true religion. All of the others are false and the work of Satan."
Sensible discussion is the only way to understanding and to have a sensible discussion both sides need to know what they are talking about. That's why I have read the Bible and quote from it when in discussion.
I wouldn't, purposely, try to take away someones faith. I know it can be a great help to some.
By the same token, I don't want evangelists knocking at my door insisting that I am wrong in my beliefs.
Khandro, //Please try to think of something better than the specious and clichéd; "Because of all the harm it does". //

See .... you knew the answer all along. ;o)

Incidentally, I don't do specious or clichéd. I say what I mean.

It probably hasn’t occurred to you, but we have an excellent example right here of the harm religion does – a belief that the science of the Koran is sound.
eternal life, if it exists (which it doesn't), well then it would be hell.
Imagine being married in the eternal life to naomi or similar (my ex for example).........I couldn't take it.

And, more importantly, as to naomi or the ex, well they couldn't take me either.
