Angels and other mystical winged beings who act as intermediaries between gods and mortals are real in the sense that they are metaphorical. They represent flashes of intuition and insights into human doings which, as today, some people are able to verbalise logically but which many people will struggle to explain other than as a kind of simplified storyboard.
