My housing estate was invaded by about 25 JWs yesterday morning, so I tried a new tack to get rid of them.

I have tried saying " Sorry, I'm Jewish" or " Sorry, I'm a Catholic" to little avail over the years. I was washing the car, so couldn't really run inside to hide.

So I tried this. I told one old biddy that " sorry but I have been disfellowshipped "

She shot off back down my drive, as if the very devil was after her !

ClaryS, you misunderstand – and you assume far too much. I don’t thank JWs for calling, but I am never rude to them and I never launch into a ‘narration about why they should not have the audacity to knock on my door’, as you suggest. Since religious history is my subject, time permitting, I invariably engage them in discussion. Unfortunately for them, that results in a critical analysis of their parroted message – the unexpected penalty for their uninvited intrusion onto my property and into my life.
For true Christians Jesus said: “Just let your word Yes mean Yes, your No, No; for what is in excess of these is from the wicked one.”—Mt 5:33-37.
Goodlife, Apart from the fact that Jesus wouldn't recognise a Christian if he tripped over one, why don't you follow his advice then? I see plenty of excess words from you - or more specifically from your masters.
Mikey4444, it speaks well for the area you live in that they 'invade' the estate. When I lived in a poorish part of Belfast I never saw JWs, Seventh-Day Adventists, or people from any other religious sect.
Now I'm in a slightly nicer area I can't open the front door for fear of being collared by missionaries.
goodlife - "...employers prefer to employ JWs ..."

and exactly what evidence do you have to support that ludicrously sweepingf statement?

Employing or indeed refusing to emplpy an individual on the basis of race, religion or orientation is illegal - well, it is down here where the rest of us live.
Say to them "I sell double blazing, please come in"
Andy, I think he might mean employers who are JWs themselves - only he conveniently left the last bit out.
naomi24 my comments that you have quoted were meant generically and not aimed specifically towards your good self. I should have used the word 'anyone' instead of 'you'. If these individuals who come to your door annoy you so much why do you feel the need to engage them? You (Naomi) by your enthusiasm to correct what you feel is their misplaced religious beliefs are doing exactly what they are doing , preaching what you believe in as the truth, to individuals who don't believe a word you're saying. Do you honestly believe that any person (JW or other)coming to your door will look you in the face after you've put them straight and say 'guess what Naomi, you've convinced me' then throw away their Watch Tower and make an appointment at the local surgery to give blood? Of course not, so why bother engaging in religious debate on your doorstep other than to belittle their beliefs and make you feel superior?
andy-hughes @ Well is so simple, how do can decide whether to trust people you meet? One thing is sure. It is very difficult to have real trust in anyone about whom you know very little about.

So only as you get to know people well do you learn over time if they are truly honest and trustworthy. You can get to know the Bible in the same way.
Do not accept without question speculative or even prejudiced theories that undermine confidence in the Bible.

Yu can take the time to consider the evidence that supports the Bible’s claim to be “inspired of God.” (2 Timothy 3:16)
godlife - "Well is so simple, how do can decide whether to trust people you meet? One thing is sure. It is very difficult to have real trust in anyone about whom you know very little about."

Indeed - but that does nothing to explain your point about employers liking JW's.

Why would an employer trust a JW he does not know more than any other faith follower, or indeed non-follower.

So, if you have an answer that doesn't involve a non-related clip from the bible - "Yu can take the time to consider the evidence that supports the Bible’s claim to be “inspired of God.” (2 Timothy 3:16)" - I would be interested to read it.
Naomi, I hope you take this in the spirit it's intended. If you had time to engage with them, I think the JW would sincerely wish they'd never darkened your doorstep. They'd leave with a flea in their ear and the feeling that they'd caught a Tartar. :-)
andy-hughes @ Well, I am not going to give any information on that.

Whatever I say you won’t believe anyway. Plus the fact you have the official website, you can look there for your self. It has been known that employees choose JWs because of their proven honesty etc. They are not biased or prejudiced, they just choose the best person for the job based on their previous experience.
Employing JWs sounds like a good plan . . . keeps them off the streets. :o/
goodlife - "Well, I am not going to give any information on that.

Whatever I say you won’t believe anyway."

Two responses - one utterly unhelpful, the other making another sweeping assumption.

Neither of them very Christian - are you sure you are a believer?
goodlife, if an employer used this piece of logic:
//Well is so simple, how do can decide whether to trust people you meet? One thing is sure. It is very difficult to have real trust in anyone about whom you know very little about.//
He wouldn't employ anybody.
When somebody asks you for proof of something you've declared, why don't you provide it rather then the pathetic"I'm not going there" or "that's all I'm going to say on the subject". If you would occasionally show a link we might actually believe what you're saying. At the moment you just expect us to believe without question but I suppose you're used to that, your whole life is based on that premise.
You could always try shouting 'GET THE F*** OFF MY PROPERTY! RIGHT NOW!' and slamming the door in their faces.
ClaryS, your post began with ‘Naomi commented’ – hence one could be forgiven for supposing that you were addressing my comment. I’m assuming your last was addressed to me, but if I’m mistaken, please ignore the following.

Why do I feel the need to engage them? Well, my long interest in religion plays a major role in my life, and since their unsolicited visits to my home are for the sole purpose of discussing their religion, it would be rather rude of me to disappoint them, don’t you think? As for me preaching to them, I don’t. I listen to what they have to say and offer my own views in response. I don’t really understand why you have such a problem with the way in which other people deal with uninvited callers – and I really have no idea why I’m bothering to explain my actions to you – good manners I expect - but I would remind you firstly that this is not about me, and secondly it is they who foist themselves upon society – and not the other way around. That’s an idea! Perhaps I should take more seriously your suggestion that I preach – and go knocking on their doors! No Brownie points from any masters in it for me, of course, but having Jewish friends whose eight year old daughter, when collecting for Lifeboats, was told by Jehovah’s Witnesses ‘Go away - you killed Jesus’, the responses I receive could make for a rather interesting study. :o)

sandyRoe, I always take your comments in the spirit that they are intended.
They are very persistant but I am always polite to them. I used to say I was Russian or whatever, but out would come a leaflet in that language, now I just say I am a Jew, that seems to do it, off they trot. But if I see them coming, I usually hide!!
Mention tarot carsds or equipment for fortune telling and they leave :)
