If they have no faith in Him now, could we expect a sudden burst of faith in the near future, when the worst comes and they are obliged to acknowledge their own helplessness and that of modern science?

Some do some don't. That is how it has always been and always will
The worst has come now that goodlife has posted but there is no burst of faith here.
>>>If they have no faith in Him now

That's a bit sexist, how do you know it is a man.

In fact how do you know if god is human, it may be "god" is a 12 foot high green legged lizard from another part of the universe that don't have men and women.

In fact it just goes to show how stupid the whole concept of a "god" is, when we have a whole universe but people think that "god" somehow has to be a man.

How pathetic.
Sadly, yes.
Is that what you are looking forward to, goodlife? a future apocalypse? Certainly sounds like it.

Faith in a god is declining amongst populations within the developed world, for sure. Were we however to experience the kind of event that allowed for a period of reflection prior to its impact - something like a massive meteor strike, that had been detected some while before it struck, for instance - then I have no doubt you would might get a lot of sudden conversions to belief, fuelled by the fear of the upcoming catastrophe and imminent mortality. Fairly understandable reaction I would have said, although not something I would do.

What do you think that might prove, anyway? The "conversion" of people to a state where they are willing to believe - have faith- in a god does not provide any proof of gods existence; It just proves that humans can be fearful/ hopeful at the same time - Fearful of a coming catastrophe but hopeful at the same time that some divine entity can offer them a miracle.

And at least science offers us some options for dealing with such catastrophes, or recognising/avoiding them through information.

Those of a religious faith who reject "science" - like your cult appears to do - in favour of a literal biblical interpretation of past history, or fail to acknowledge the many many benefits that science has brought into the lives of humanity are simply deluded. You should really take note of eminent scientists like Lord Martin Rees, or Dr. Francis Collins, Director of the National Institute of Health in the US, or Professor Kenneth Miller, and eminent biologist who famously defended evolution against the nonsense that is Intelligent Design in the Kitzmiller vs Dover Area School District back in 2005. All of these people are eminent scientists, and all have a belief/faith in god, a faith unchallenged by science.

Its about time JWs and other fundamentalist cults/religions around the globe grew up

Goodlife, well done. More Brownie points. Your masters will be pleased. ;o)

One day, just like the rest of us, you will die. Get used to it.
In desperation one may opt to clutch at straws since nothing if known absolutely, but I don't see that proves much regarding whether their straw is reality or not.

Also no one is all powerful but that doesn't mean our best options should be mocked as "helpless". We have achieved one heck of a lot already using science. It is our best method to learn and understand. Infinitely better than guessing and then believing and trying to justify that belief without testing.

May I add to LG's list of 'scientist believers', particle physicist John Polkinghorne, Former Professor of Mathematical Physics at Cambridge University. There is a good Q & A site;

If Astronomer Royal, Martin Rees of whom is also listed is correct, the apocalypse may be along sooner than we think; he believes mankind will be lucky to survive until the end of this century.
Very likely most of us won't !

True many people view science with an almost worshipful awe.

But I see many highly respected scientists consider it unscientific to believe in an intelligent First Caus, to say that the universe, its laws, and life just happened is intellectually unsatisfying. Everyday experience tells us that design—especially highly sophisticated design—calls for a designer.

And you say, Apocalypse! If this what come your mind when you hear that expression. Is it doomsday, Holocaust, World War III ect , The end of the world, If these mental pictures appear, Science and the news media paint man’s future very gloomy.

Have you not read at Rev 1:3 — “Happy is he who reads aloud and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and who observe the things written in it.”
You assume the universe was designed though. Or your parallel fails.

Yes a real one that can be tested . Not an imaginary one.

However I will consider your Invisible God if you tell me how and who created him out of nothing.
@Goodlife " Everyday experience tells us that design—especially highly sophisticated design—calls for a designer" - Only to the uninformed.Your observation is incorrect.

You have not addressed the question I posed to you earlier - Why is it you and your cult cannot accept the science and the evidence like those other people of faith that are eminent scientists?

"And you say, Apocalypse! If this what come your mind when you hear that expression. Is it doomsday, Holocaust, World War III ect , The end of the world, If these mental pictures appear, Science and the news media paint man’s future very gloomy."

And where does this come from? You are the one that posited an event rendering humanity and science helpless in front of it in the first place. Its your and your cult that glory and salivate at the prospect of some catastrophic end-days.

Its this ridiculous nonsense - the prospect of an end days and man reduced to helpless supplicants, on its collective knees, helpless in the face of such adversity that your cult glories in that fills me with gloom - that anyone could be so refractory to observation, rational thinking, evidence and knowledge.

And as for your last, scriptural burblings - how about you explain what you think it means, in your own words? I tire of the deathless prose and little rhyming couplets you offer as sage words of advice.

GL, you are making an erroneous assumption if you think that this is an age of science. Most atheists and agnostics don't know what science is and almost no theist has a clue what science is about. It is remarkable that in a world where most people believe in some form of deity that science has made the progress that it has,but why kill the goose that continues to lay golden eggs? Science is steadily unveiling the mysteries of which religion would prefer to remain in ignorance. You are certainly amongst the people that are helpless, but I needn't tell you why that is.
jomifl; //Science is steadily unveiling the mysteries of which religion would prefer to remain in ignorance.//
This can not be true, as many scientists are religious (see above) and as Rupert Sheldrake points out in his book 'The Science Delusion' a lot of scientists hold atheist 'beliefs' to their scientific cohort, but many are less resolute after they have finished the day job.
Define worst. Death comes to us all.

'closet theists', working at the laboratory? What an amusing thought. :-)
