According to the holy bible tithing is a spiritual law encouraging one to give a portion of their earned income. Practicing this habit helps one find abundance, fulfillment, and gratitude in their everyday lives.

When a person tithes, the universe that works under the spiritual law of tithing says - 'if you have that much to give, then you are open to receive more'. As we fulfill our part of the covenant by giving, then God fulfills his part by continually blessing us.

I think I've been over-tithed most of my life. Still the blessings should show up soon, hopefully.

I give when I could, however much I could afford. My hurdle in this biblical law is the commitment.
It was only 10%. Many taxpayers would be happy if that was all was taken from their wages.
Ah...that's where I've been going wrong...shucks!

Sure you have the right thread, Goodlife?
goodlife - seeing that everything is planned (my philosophy) then no one is free we are all slaves to the hand that's dealt us.... That's me...the ONE PERSON.... people say to me..."Oh god, not you again...". Bet you didn't know I'm the one and only did you!
Does he care society? btw I do give a portion of my earned income even though I don't have much...better to give than receive I think but only because I love giving, not for reward.
I give my portion by charitable donations, but it's not as much as the 10% of my income which I learned about in my childhood. In Islam, I have read that the annual donation for charity (zakat) is a percentage of your wealth when you have taken out all your living expenses, paid debts, etc. Should we consider that the tithe is on the same principle in Christianity?
jusrt another form of taking by the church.....along with brain cells and any type of fun......
Tithes were abolished in the C19 the UK . I'd be surprised to find that any church here, other than the branches of one in Utah, either receives or expects them.

How does Christ's story of the Widow's mite fit in with this ?

Me too Daisya, and I usually give more than the 10%.

My belief is this - as long as we give what we can afford to help each other, that is what matters, not the amount.

Yes Boxy, I believe so.
People who give should give freely – not on the instruction of someone else, and not in the expectation that they will receive something in return.
For Muslims, if memory serves, I think the required amount is 2% - but I'll check that.
Tithing is just another form of Insurance offered by the church with no guarantee of any payout.
What does the church do with the money? Some of us in this country pay 40 per cent or so of our income to the Defender of the Faith and Head of the Church of England. I gather her government applies it to hospitals, relief of the poor, help to foreign travellers seeking shelter without limit of time, and other worthy causes.

What does your church do with your money?

I have bypassed the middle men and give directly to charities.
So one of the worlds riches organisations want me to give my hard earned money to them. Mmm.
Question Author
I don't go to church. I give to those whom I believe are worthy of help.

Charities?! Pah! How much of your money goes into administrative cost, and how much is actually geared toward helping the needy? I will not say never, but, as of right now I would not give to charitable organisations. I give to the needy person / people.
