Why are atheists so mistrusted (despised?) by those who believe?

I've often heard it said (mostly by Americans on TV) that they'd rather vote for someone who was religious, regardless of their religion, than they would an atheist.
So two questions:
Question A: Christians, who would you prefer to have as a neighbour - a muslim or an atheist?
Question B: Muslims, who would you prefer to have as a neighbour - a christian or an atheist?

You're suggesting that the Pakistani Taliban are not a group of fanatical, murderous, bigoted, religious morons but are in fact a group of CIA funded personnel tasked with the duty of acting exactly like a group of fanatical, murderous, bigoted. religious morons? What purpose would this covert operation serve?
You say that the 'CIA Taliban' were attempting to divert people's attention away from other issues. What 'other issues' are you talking about that were so urgent that they must be removed from the national/international press? What kind of 'issues' would warrant the attempted murder of a high-profile Pakistani schoolgirl who was already internationally known for wanting nothing more than an education?

Or is it safe to say that you haven't got the faintest idea about the logistics of these businesses and are simply clinging to your idiotic conspiracy theory by the flimsiest of threads?

My next door neighbors are Muslim and the nicest people you could wish to meet, the rest of the street (92 homes) are as far as I know atheist.
The only problems come from one house where there is a single woman who has many 'boyfriends' who tend to get drunk and bang on the door in the middle of the night. I've lost count of the number of times the police have been called to sort it out. It is all one house , the Muslims are as much against it as we all are.

Pakistani Taliban (or even this word) was unheard of until 2004 or 2005. Because Pakistan’s then President Musharaf only allowed CIA agents into Tribal area of South Wazirastan in 2003 and then they hired the services of all of the criminals in that area and created “Pakistani Taliban” to put pressure on Pakistan. Taliban fighting in Afghanistan have so many time said that they had nothing to do with Pakistani Taliban. However if you do not agree with it then just answer two very simple questions;
1 - Why there are about 95% Drone attacks in North Wazirastan (Haqani Group) and almost nil in South Wazirastan? Pakistani Intelligent services had bad relations with CIA (and we all know that) because according to them CIA Drones do not hit groups (Pakistani Taliban) that are carrying out terrorist attacks in Pakistan.
2 – The minimum distance between Pakistani controlled areas and Afghan border is 80 miles (and at few places over 175 miles) of hostile tribal areas of SOUTH WAZIRASTAN under the control of so called “PAKISTANI TALIBAN”. Every day 100s of tankers go through that area with logistic goods (including fuel) for forces fighting in Afghanistan. Why those tankers are never attacked in that area? Yes you might hear about odd attacks on tankers but trust me that does not even damage 1% of the supply.
3 – Where the terrorists working within Pakistan are getting all of their USA manufactured weapons and explosives?
4 – Why there was not even a single terrorist attack in Pakistan when a person called Raymond Davis (CIA director of undercover operations in Pakistan) was arrested in Lahore?

Eddie - Sorry I forgot to mention that I do not do things, or do not make statements where someone will have to suspend me. However if ever got suspended then I will not come back here like so many others have done. They change their log in name or change their mind but they do come back. Probably their living depends on theis website and on posting here. Mine does not.
