On the news tonight, both a representative of the Church of England and a spokesman for Islam said that since it is in direct contravention of God’s law, marriage between same sex couples must not be legalised. I don’t believe we’ve had a discussion on the subject in this section, so your thoughts?

Two people in love should be allowed to marry whatever they are! Gay, lesbian or straight.
I have often heard the church talk about natural/unnatural but it often depends on what they are talking about. They use natures law to defend some things then they will say that they are above nature on other things personally I get very confused!!!
Any discussion about same sex liaisons quickly degenerates into innuendo and farce.
A 'Marriage' is a union between one man and one woman for the purpose of supplying a stable background for the raising of children . Religion does not come into it . That's my view and nothing will change it.
if a single sex couple want to commit to each other and live together that is fine , no problem, but do not call it 'Marriage' call it a 'partnership' 'significant relationship' 'betrothal' or any name you like but not 'Marriage'
Get a blessing at a church, synagogue , temple, mosque or the local massage parlor if you like, fine again, but don't call it 'Marriage'
In my experience single sex relationships last less than 1/4 the average time of a man / woman relationship anyway so is all the fuss worth it? Be honest how many single sex relationships do you know that have lasted more than 2 years ?
"Any discussion about same sex liaisons quickly degenerates into innuendo and farce" - oh please dont.
I think you'll find that it's the sex part of the conversation that causes that Grasscarp, whatever the gender orientation
Why not call it a marriage?
I am married to the opposite sex but we did not have children so due to this fact are we not married?
Talking about farce: Are they both known as Dwight or Furnish?

And why did Ukrainian law prevent them adopting because of their marital status?
<sarcasm on>
1. Being gay is not natural. Real Christians always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning.
2. Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.
3. Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behaviour. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.
4. Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn’t changed at all; women are still property, blacks still can’t marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.
5. Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed; the sanctity of Britany Spears’ 55-hour just-for-fun marriage would be destroyed.
6. Straight marriages are valid because they produce children. Gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn’t be allowed to marry because our orphanages aren’t full yet, and the world needs more children.
7. Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.
8. Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That’s why we have only one religion in the UK.
9. Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That’s why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.
10. Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms. Just like we haven’t adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans.

:o)
Eddie i know a good few same sex relationships which have lasted and are still lasting longer...and im not talking celebs either.

And why do we have to conform to what other people think we should conform to. Are we not intelligent enough to be who we want to be!!!!
And the winner is.....jackthehat

Brilliant answer!!!

Who cares who the person is attracted to!! The person has the right to marry whoever they want- two consenting adults....what skin it is off of anyonelse nose For Funks Sake xx
Jack the hat,
For a vey long second I thought I had drunk way toooooo much wine!
Don't worry Mojo jo jo, Grasscarp failed to engage intellectually within this thread and she's being a sour grapes. Maybe she's tired of being a nocturnal back-seat driver ;-)
Jack you know I love you............but it's still a no from me.
JTH - I'm really glad you're still here.
"Any discussion about same sex liaisons quickly degenerates into innuendo and farce" - so where do you think this happened Grasscarp ? (before you flounce off to be pompous on another thread). Do you not appreciate that what you see as 'degeneration' might actually be a valuable part of the discussion process ?
Then God's law is an ass!!!
I watched a programme about Nazi Germany. There was what we would hope to believe are intelligent people discussing how Jewish someone was. I.e one quarter Jewish then Jew one eigth Jewish then ? What. The absolutely insanity of it I could not believe. It was Monty Pythonist if it wasn't so insane and scary.
I look after severly disabled adults if we brought natures law into it god only knows how they would be treated!
I am glad I can see what is right and wrong!
> Gay Marriage – Yes Or No?

Yes.

And the longer and harder the CofE argues against it, the more likely that disestablishment will take place ...
jackthehat..love it..love it..love it.......all so true!!!
Brilliant, jackthehat. And I notice that no theist has answered my question as to why we should worry about what the Church thinks.
