Katiekonker - “... there being no place in society or on this forum for Islamophobia...”
A dislike of Islam is not automatically Islamophobia. A 'phobia' is an irrational fear or dislike of something. The operative word there being 'irrational'. If a person studies a religious belief system and comes to the conclusion that the belief is nonsense or even dangerous, it is not irrational to dislike that belief system nor to actively oppose it.
For example, if one studies the Catholic faith and comes to the conclusion that it is barbaric, deeply hypocritical, nonsensical and often immoral then it would be dishonest and wrong to label such a person a 'Catholophobic'. Nothing irrational has occurred.
It is interesting to note that the word 'Catholophobic' isn't really a word. Neither are 'Hinduphobic', 'Sikhophobic', 'Buddaphobic', etc. None of these religions claim that to dislike them is to be irrational. Only Islam claims that particular trophy. That fact alone should give any rational person pause for thought.
Why would an entire religious belief system embrace and endorse a word that classifies any criticism of it as 'irrational'...?
