I was watching this earlier and it made me think.
Hypothetically - if you had £500,000 and wanted to buy a place in the UK to spend the summer months and a place abroad to spend the winter months, what UK and foreign locations would I want to live in? And what portion of the funds would you use to purchase each property, small humble home in UK and big place abroad or vice versa?

well, what conclusions did you come to?
The Canary Islands or Southern Spain for winter sun. Somewhere near London for the UK residence. I'm not sure half a million would be enough.
Where I live at the moment would do for a UK pied-a-terre - then for abroad, we are looking at Menorca or Morocco.
Dorset for the Summer. chalet perhaps. and definately S. Italy for the Winter or Capri, a house overlooking the Mediteranian - 1/3 in Dorset and 2/3 in Italy.

(only if the Lotto came up, )

I concluded £300,000 for a comfortable, fairly spacious home somewhere in North Yorkshire/Cumbria (out of the national parks though to keep price down) and £200,000 would probably go much further in terms of space and location if you were to buy Turkey/Greece/Canary Isles/Majorca. But it just got me thinking was all and wondered what you all thought. I do have the thought in the back of my mind in years to come and is something my parents have been considering, for a similar budget as stated above.
I like my home town in Summer but for winter would choose Australia.
