So our 'Leader' (where's Cameron?) has committed Britain by law to spend billions overseas every year, although Britain spent almost £10billion on foreign aid last year, with the biggest chunk going to India,

/// Mr Clegg insisted that the aid bill was in our ‘self-interest’ and linked the plight of the poor abroad to terrorism and immigration problems at home.///

Who is trying to kid, does he really think that if he throws billions of pounds overseas, that will somehow prevent terrorism and solve our immigration problems? Er! wasn't this almost the same excuse for us being in Afghanistan?

While Britain raised its donations to foreign countries by nearly 15 per cent in 2009, at the height of the financial crisis, Germany slashed its aid budget by 12 per cent to divert spending to priorities at home.

While vast cuts are made at home, with our schools crumbling, and our housing stock dwindling etc, etc.

Should he now be reducing our overseas aid and spending it on our country?

Labour said the more aid we give the more they send us in return . That's true ! We send them aid and they send us terrorism and immigrants. Clegg is now trotting out the same message.
America has spent more money on aid than all other countries put together and is universely the most disliked.
It is the basic characteristic of beggers , charities and countries whenever you try to help they are never satisfied and the further east you go the worse it gets. Baksheesh, baksheese , baksheese is the first word they learn .
Why do you think the Conservative Party are committing to this foreign aid bill?

What do you think they know that we don't?

I mean, I could understand it if it were some left leaning 'do-gooder' party - but surely that isn't the Conservatives???
By ring-fencing our overseas aid budget whilst some of our population are close to the breadline speaks volumes about our politicians. Not only that but Clegg is about to induce a new law to make it permanent on the statute book so while our economy is falling around on its ears the priority will be to dish these handouts.

America is one of the largest donors of foreign aid and the rest of the world really respects them for this.....just like a rich uncle who gets despised by his benefactors.

Wasn't there a song by the Beatles.."Money can't buy me love"?
America is one of the largest donor's of foreign aid?

What's this a new comedy routine.

The largest recipient of US foreign aid is Israel and in comes in the form of American weaponry.

That is providing you ignore "Aid" to Iraq

The Americans have a very interesting take on what constitutes Aid

No it's the Liberals, but Cameron is letting them get away with it.
AOG

This is my guesswork here, and none of us are experts, so bare with me.

By developing stronger ties with India, which has a booming tech industry, we put ourselves at the forefront of service providers.

Also, we need India 'onside' as a provider for cheap raw materials for our food and textiles industries.

As to the apparent madness that a country with a booming economy can still need aid - I really can't answer that.
Ahem...

"so bare with me"

should read:

"so bear with me"

All you need to do is misspell one word and the whole meaning of a sentence becomes rather grubby.

If Clegg thinks the millions we send (in the form of food, shelter, tools etc) actually reaches it's intended destination, he is very mis-guided.

UK - "Did you get the money?"
Destination - "Yes, definately and it's been spent on the poor...not".
