I watched a show on Tammy Wynette last night, one of the contributors was a feminist of the 1970s who berated Wynete for the lyrics of her songs.
She'd now changed her stance on the matter, but of course was right both times.
So it got me thinking, the other day I posted a link to a load of nonsense that was basically b i t c h i n g about other women, and on that score, there's a huge business in it with women's magazines.
Who's getting fat, who's getting thin, who's going grey, who's got wrinkles, who's got celulite, fashion disasters etc etc.
In the 90s it was all you don't need a man to raise a child, now men are realised to play a crucial role in a child's development (no sob stories please), in the 90s if a woman said she'd rather spend time with her children than go to work or pursue her carreer, she was derided for letting the side down and called "traditional" as an insult.
Women now are driikng to excess to the detriment of their own health and are involved in ever more cases of violent crime, I've heard it said that it's because women are expected to compete with men now.
The pressure to drink loads and fight (usually about a bloke) doesn't come from us, most women say that they undergo cosmetic surgery not because of men.
You hate to be told how to raise your children, what to think or why you do something, but you're often quick to tell others how to live their lives, and how.
So with the touch paper lit, here's the question, are other women more often than not a woman's worst enemy?

Not just random women, usually family, often people we have come to trust, usually with some axe to grind that noone in their right mind would consider an issue and mainly they are insane.
In lots of cases - yes (magazines, fashion etc). There`s no such thing as sisterhood!
Hormones can cause strange behaviours in people. And I believe women are more affected by this. Studies show women are more aggressive towards other females, supposedly as a defence to increased competition.
Yes.
Women are other women's biggest and worst enemies.
Men are completely without blame........

Jack, what I'm talking about isn't how men and women relate to one another, it's about how women and women relate to one another.
For instance, I've never heard a man call a woman a sl ag, whereas with women it's almost the warm up to the big fight.
Men (I've always found) are slow to pass judgement on their peers.
I've only ever met one bloke who obssesses about what other men wear.
men are often slow to do a lot of things......
You've never heard a man cal a woman a s lag ?

What a sheltered life you must lead !?!
Question Author
Erm no, I've never ever heard a man call a woman a ***, even in conversation in the canteen about the various ones who used to ride on the platform with us, I'm getting old now, we all knew the score and so did they.
But like I said, the post is about how women relate to women, about how women refer to other women.
I like jack :o)

DTH?
I really can't remember the last time (if ever) that I've refered to another woman as a
$lag.

I'm confused by your... "about the various ones who used to ride on the platform with us, I'm getting old now, we all knew the score and so did they." remark.

What do you mean ?

I also like, Sara..............;o)
were you a bus driver everton?

I like women, on the whole. ;-)
If we are being horrid, there's usually a good reason. And if not, blame the hormones.
IMO the demon here is the availablity and pervasiveness of the media. Kids are bombarded with advertising from as soon as they start watching telly. The magazines you cite are part of this constant airbrained nattering that poisons people's minds. As most people who read this stuff are no longer working in demanding physical jobs, they have mental time and energy to devote to absorbing yet more of The Message. Which seems to be, you have no right to be happy with who you are, what you are and what you do. Look also at the massive growth in self help and other therapy over the same period. And all these have the same ultimate aim, which is to part you from your money.
In the absence of being able to control people physically, or by laws (like Sharia law), then it's useful in a machiavellian way to be able to screw their heads up.
Even the so-called quality papers are intent on making their readers wish they dressed differently or lived elsewhere.
Ans lastly, I agree that for whatever reasons women are indeed the most effective repressers of other women.
me and my mates are pretty steady, rarely fall out or talk about each other behind their backs.

my wifes circle of friends are forever disbanding, making up, falling out, not talking to such and such etc etc.

i think women enjoy that sort of drama and gossip really, most blokes can't be arsed with the hassle of it.

I am a bus driver.
Jack, there used to be a lot of girls (late teens early twenties) who used to ride around and "date" various drivers (myself included) they weren't worried if you were married or courting etc, just a bit of fun, there were some who'd been "out" with in the region of ten of the other drivers, some of them preferred married men.
Mosaic, that sounds like a form of brainwashing, some good points though.
Ankou, absolutely bang on.
Sara, if you were to go back thirty five years and present the argument that the feminist cited presents now, you'd have been shouted down, so when was she right?
The two women lived in two different universes, coped with two different realities, the feminist (if I knew her name I'd use it) wouldn't have lasted five minutes in the world Tammy grew up in.
Wynette was born into poverty, wed into poverty, was surrounded by poverty, through her own inate skill and talent she ennunciated the pain, the suffering and the reality of the lives of many of the women she sung to, that's a talent.
Far from attacking her, the feminist groups should have applauded her for identifying the problems and try offer choice and opportunity to such people, and that goes for the men too!
I was brought up in a male dominated pub. Believe me....men are a lot worse than women. Men do call women ***.s.....just not so much in front of other women. They also pass judgement on women very quickly.

Jachthehat....remember our mutual friend who told you lies about me? I have never heard a woman bragging about having sexual conquests that obviously are all in her head.
ummm, aint you read any of jj's stuff then !!
I only have YOUR word that they were all in his head.......................;D

I've listened to the way that many men refer to women, everton, and they are far from the forgiving courteous types you seem fortunate to work with.
Like what?

If it doesn't interest me then I won't bother reading it. If it'd about shoes, handbags or cars......I tend to not bother.
Yuk....you know it's not true.....the thought is making me feel queasy...lol

He wouldn't be the first to say something like that though......

I got called a sl ag just because I wouldn't play pool with some bloke......he didn't know Daddy was standing behind me...
Question Author
I've never heard a man call a woman a s lag, in a row etc, or even more in passing.
Men do gossip, but I'm not posing a question about men, it's about women and the pressures they impress upon each other.
