Good question. It is because they live in Holland. The word Dutch is an old Germanic word that comes from Deutch. As all the Germainic languages were similar.
The country is actually called the Netherlands (nether meaning low). And it is also called Holland.
The reason for this is that when the map-makers made a map of Europe, "The Netherlands" was too large to fit into the small-sized country. So they invented Holland which fits nice and easy into the small map area. Hope this helps.
Nope; Holland is a part of the Netherlands on the western coast, *not* the entire thing.
And they hardly invented the name Holland ..it comes from the old Dutch holt lant ..wood land ....the wooded areas around Dordrecht which is the nucleus of Holland.Technically, just one province of the Netherlands.
