what are "hail marys and our fathers" i've heard that mentioned in catholic churches?

Prayers. The Ave Maria = Hail Mary and, of course, the Lord's Prayer is the one which opens with the words: "Our father which art in heaven..." I believe priests sometimes ask people to say these prayers as a penance for the sins they have confessed.
Also forms part of saying the Rosary, particularly in which you would say 10 "Hail Mary's" and 1 "Our Father" in each of the 5 decades of the rosary plus a few more at the introduction.
Hail Mary full of grace, is also a prayer used in the Anglican church and part of Angelus midday prayer also the Rosary, Our Father is The Lord's prayer and used in all christian churches.
