why do we only feel our pulse in certain parts?

We only feel our pulse when an artery passes close to the surface and can be pressed against a hard part of the body i.e. bone or hard cartilidge, and we can then feel the blood flow through the artery as the heart pumps. All in all just as well or we would be full of tickles.
