Such is the cry of the Stop the War Coalition as they urge people to rally in protest on a Global Day of Action on Sunday 6 March.

Just one question. Stop the War … how?

It’s pathetic.
Somehow it’s all Britain’s and the west’s fault
“Stop the war!”
Yes great idea.
Who do they think they are protesting to?
Idealistic fools who believe that it is possible to deal with a narcissistic megalomaniac via the usual channels as he wages a ruthless vanity project in his quest for a former era and regime

If they want to be of use they can become sandbags
Don’t know how they think they will stop war, probs just mass public opinion. Won’t bother putin much but may make other Russians sit and listen..

Just put in my post code for nearest domo, got London and Brighton… hmm
they get more exercise than people like me sitting at home protesting about the war on the internet, so good luck to them.
They get more exercise.

You stay at home doing your bit rather more effectively and avoid getting filmed by Russian mainstream TV.
Everyone’s a winner!
They are idiots. I can't even say well meaning idiots because I'm not sure they are.
I don't think any amount of rallying or protesting will stop this terrorist's agenda.
> Stop the War … how?

The answer isn't on that website. A very confused bunch.
A better view of their position, motivations etc can be found here:

https://www.stopwar.org.uk/article/this-changes-everything/

I offer this up only as a representation of *their* position. For those who don't want to read it, a very brief summary would be something like: "Russia is entirely at fault this time, but Western powers should reflect on their own roles in escalating conflicts."

Andy Hughes will no doubt enjoy an intriguing example of the "'So' rule" about two-thirds of the way in.
The best way to stop NATO expansion is to stop Putin
A very good question. Nobel Peace Prize to the first one to offer the definitive answer.
Sadly, no one is going to be influenced by them. Anyone remember Tienamen Square? I saw on T.V. all those students laughing and popping flowers down tank gun barrels. We all saw the result days later.
Very idealistic viewpoint but hey, free country so let them say their piece.

SB @ 11:06. Very much in agreement. Maybe not the sandbags bit tho' ;-)
I am afraid I don’t trust the organisers of this one inch.

The only honest and meaningful protests are those directed at the aggressor.
This particular war is nothing whatever to do with NATO expansion but it seems largely one man’s desire to obliterate a democratic country and impose his will on it regardless of the human cost.
The rest is just noise and self pity
how wars end ( A J P Taylor) is worth a read

1917 - Trotsky just said - after talks failed - we just stop fighting. and then at the peace talks - famously he added - take as much land as you want all it means is that for the next war, Germany begins nearer.

that was the one where Lenin was asked - have the army voted for this and he answered: " The Russian army has voted with its feet".

They all think that when Kyiv falls the war will end.

Napoleon - ( where he invade den? answer 1812 - Russia) took Moscow and asked - where is the czar?
the czar never came
an he nart kom when the French burnt Moscow.

so we will have to wait and see
“ take as much land as you want all”

Trotsky of course wanted world revolution based on ideology and a very unrussian ideology at that.
Then in 1991 Yeltsin said to the Soviet republics:
“Take advantage much freedom as you want” because ironically then in the rush to leave the Soviet Union Russia was first in line.
Hard to believe now
well the war will stop sometime
it depends whether Ukraine is flat by that time

No one has mentioned Pan-slavism yet- which I find odd

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pan-Slavism

since Putin's views are clearly pan-slavic

The other thing, perhaps less relevant is that henry VIII wanted his daughter ( Margaret I think) to marry the Scots King. He wanna less. So henry invaded Scotland. This was called the rough wooing.
The fall of the USSR 1991 reminded me of the fall of Constantinople in 1458: they ran out of money
so it fell apart

Bit like Portugal and Portuguses Africa - defence of their empire took 67% of the budget ( we are currently at 2%)

I don’t trust the organisers either, ich. They’re like of a bunch of stupidly idealistic students who’ve never grown up and are never likely to. Their language says it all for me.
I dare say the Old Scarecrow and the Magic Abacus(Corbyn and Abbott)are financing these bunch of Putin apologists.

Although well-intentioned gestures won't stop the war, I was pleased to see the mass walkout at the UN as the Russian foreign minister spoke.

That this war is happening in 21st century Europe is beyond belief.
