Why do I not feel guilty for my opinion that same sex marriage is an abomination.

Must be my age and intolerance.

Sparklykid, I think we just have to face the fact, however unpalatable some may find it, the TV has to reflect the world as it is today. Unfortunately, because soaps need to be inclusive, I think there is a disproportionate amount of LGBT's, same sex marriages etc. As well as that there seems to be a disproportionate amount of criminality and death by accident...

you can, of course think what you like. I just find it odd that you think your view is right because it's backed up by a definition of marriage from nearly half a century ago. Things move on. Sometimes people don't
I just don't understand some people. Two people of the same sex want to celebrate their love for one another by getting married. Good for them.
A huge number of people think that same sex marriage is wrong
Indeed they do, fiveleaves. and what does that tell us? That a huge number of people are miserable, ignorant numpties without whom the world would be a much, much nicer and happier place..... :-)
What is wrong with people loving other people? Christians say that we should love one another. If you love someone, what is wrong with making a solemn and public promise that you will stick with them through thick and thin? What's sex got to do with it? (And be honest, it's the sex that frightens people for some reason. We all do it, birds and bees do it, our lovely pets and farm animals do it. At least we try to do it with love and dignity.)
Sparkly, I think you don't feel guilty because you are lacking in human decency. You seem not to understand human nature, or have any human charity and tolerance. Why exactly do you disapprove? Is it because you don't like 'unnatural' love, or is it that you don't like public declarations of love?
Hang onto your hat. What's next ?

Well if that's what floats your boat, Arazdoz and the sheep's happy too.... :-)
I just think the homophobes have their minds in the gutter. I've never wondered what people get up to in bed.
I expect one day there will be a thread here with some displaying their all-encompassing virtue & accusing others of being 'ovinephobes'.
Atheist; // What's sex got to do with it? (And be honest, it's the sex that frightens people for some reason. //

Speak for yourself, it doesn't frighten me. Living here in this beautiful countryside in springtime, next to a wonderful river, all I can see around me are fauna & flora 'heing & a sheing', nature seems to know what it's doing, don't you?
Khandro, You risk being accused of lacking human decency - and perhaps worse still, of being an ignorant numpty. Careful. Where rudeness begins civil and intelligent discussion ends. ;o)
In fairness Naomi, in a discussion which starts with the OP declaring same sex marriage to be "an abomination", I dont don't think civility was something Sparky particularly cared about.
// Just live your private lives in your own way people without advertising it ... //

What counts as private? The mere fact of a same-sex relationship isn't private, nor should it be treated as such, any differently from hetero relationships. As long as TV and film shows consider relationships and romance as entertainment, then why treat same-sex relationships, or anything else on the LGBT spectrum, any differently?
Mozz, //In fairness Naomi, in a discussion which starts with the OP declaring same sex marriage to be "an abomination"//

That’s not fairness. The word comes from the biblical description of the act of two men lying together. Rather different from labelling anyone who disagrees ‘ignorant numpties’.

Jim, //As long as TV and film shows consider relationships and romance as entertainment, then why treat same-sex relationships, or anything else on the LGBT spectrum, any differently?//

TV and film doesn’t treat same-sex relationships differently.

//What counts as private? The mere fact of a same-sex relationship isn't private, nor should it be treated as such//

In my opinion all relationships should be treated as private. I don't don't feel compelled to wear 'Happy to be Hetero' t-shirts - my life is no one else's business - and I simply don’t understand why anyone else needs to advertise their preferences - unless, as I suspect, they crave attention and it’s a case of ‘Look at me’.
//I’m
just me - a lady who likes men and is married to a man//

You were quite happy to publicise your preferences on the last page though, naomi.
Indeed - that's what happens when people I don't know and care even less about have the gall to stick labels labels on me uninvited.
Naomi, marriages are not private stuff, they are a public declaration of love between two human beings.

Jeez, how is your head wired?
Well yes, labelling is made up. But then we still distinguish between a homosexual or heterosexual marriage or relationship, so we are all using labels. Although, admittedly, ones that are usually consented to.
