I've never been offered breakfast on a job in my entire life.

Tea, coffee, yeah that's quite normal, and on reflection i once got offered a ham sandwich (i guess this is similar) but this morning i was offered a coffee (happily accepted) and a bacon butty!!!!!

I double took the nice (relatively old) lady after saying yes to the coffee with a "urmm, that would be delightful but you don't have to go through the trouble"

Nonsense she said (SCORE!!!) and she came back 5 minutes later with a Chris P Bacon sandwich, so i sat down with her for a couple of moments to sip the morning Joe and to destroy Chris P.. Now, back to trimming her bushes for the last time before winter.. Don't forget winter is coming ya'll get your plants ready

Would you accept such an offer or would you feel rude? Usually i would feel rude but in the moment it felt perfectly acceptable. I come here once a week so i've got to know the nice lady

I always offer workmen a sandwich.
My poota aint got a Scottish spell checker I meant lum reek
Its good manners Ummm and how you get the best work completed.
Manners are most important aren't they?
If my lot ever turn up they may get offered a few choice words ;-)
Well I would offer at least toast early morning and a sarnie lunchtime. If I have someone there all day I tell them where the teabags etc are and let them help themselves. My old plumber always used to bring me tea if he made one for himself
Hold the sandwich out mamya and say 'you would have got this if you had been on time but you haven't so the dogs getting it'!

I can see a scaffolder enjoying a lettuce sandwich when he's fixing roof tiles after a storm.Good manners. Ha. A few good old Irish expletives would soon be learnt.
Its nice she offered your brekkie, I'd have to say no as I'm so fussy where bacon is concerned but glad you enjoyed it.

On another note, you say tomato i say tomayto, it doesn't matter.
Scaffolders don't fix roof tiles, roofers do :-D

My son is a roofer and if someone offered him something to eat he'd be straight down.

Mccfluff it was home made bread (house smelt lovely) and crispy bacon :) i’m also usually fussy which is why i like it crispy

Been coming here every week for about 6 month so i’ve gotten use to her by now
Some roofers do both, ummmm and build their own scaffolding as your friend will verify.I bet your son would be most appreciative of a lettuce sandwich proffered him. My roofer would not be so happy. :-(
I prefer tomato sauce on my bacon butties!

mm - My best friend married a lovely Scottish bloke and he always calls is broon sauce.
^ 'it' not 'is' !
spath - you call her 'relatively old', how old is that in your opinion. Just interested ....
Every time I see the title of this thread I'm thinking 'Offreds Breakfast'
(some will know...) lol!
I know, I was joking. My OH fixed our roof....and then my son re-done it properly :-) I can't stay in the house if they do roof stuff!

He'd eat a lettuce sandwich if it had salad cream on it. He's an absolute pig. I can't help but stare at him when he eats. He's so small and slim but can demolish a plate of food in minutes.
This immigrant thinks all the lovely local accents, words and phrases are what give this place character. Some of it might be incomprehensible to others but so what?
I'd give a workman a bacon sandwich if it's an early or all-day job, otherwise it's just tea and coffee.

I give dinner and lunchtime sandwiches to the staff where I work. The fussy ones are not being offered anything now. I can't be doing with people who turn down a perfectly good meal, or ask me what I'm putting in the sandwiches.
Steady!!!

I believe broon is just one of hundreds of words in a rich and colourful dialect. It would be crass ignorance to regard a word used by some in the Scots community as anything else.
I would be highly offended by the bad manners shown should I use some Welsh phrases like Doo lally Tup to describe an individual.A matter of breeding I assume.
