Does anyone on here have a good word for them?
Knowing 3 people who have dealings with them, I certainly don't.

We have them winter on our ground every year and by and large have had no issues with them. We have had issues with others here and there but no more so than with Gorjies, they are just people, some good, some bad and most in the middle.
There is also the danger that people unknowingly lump all travelling groups together. There is a massive difference between New age Travellers, Protesters, Irish Tinkers, Irish Travellers, English Pseudo Rom, English Roma and Eastern European Rom and Sinti, however since that's too much trouble for you to understand, just tar all of them with the same brush and be racially offensive. You wouldn't dream of speaking like this about any other racial group, and frankly this whole thread is a disgrace and has been reported as a deliberately agitational thread.

Why do you feel the need to outfox the censor? Can't you mange other words to say your piece?

I agree with Kval to a large degree - I don't generalise about any group of people.

I see no gain in that.
Good for you, kvalidir. I agree.

Just try me, dear. In any case they are not racial groups.
Well that just shows your ignorance doesn't it Jack? Certain travelling groups most certainly ARE racial groups- educate yourself for a change, and if you're proud of being a racist bigot then I question the value of you sharing my oxygen.
There wouldn't be a thread if there hadn't been a burglary.

Declare your interest and move on.
Was that for me Mamya? If so, I am against the term ...to the point of addressing it. I hate prejudice and I am not afraid to spell it out.
It just mystifies me that's all.
Alans in a Brahms time.
People were avoiding the term and I felt it was necessary to throw it in their faces as a few here seem to be prejudiced and were hinting at it.
It was more of an attempt to throw it AT their faces.
Perhaps some research into the origin of the term might be of benefit.
It comes from the fact that travellers travelled on the Pikes, hence '***' and came to be used as an insult, what of it? It's an insult people shouldn't need to use it Jack.
Mi ...er JD, origins don't come into it as far as I'm concerned. Prejudice is prejudice.
"Nip" for example comes from Nippon, which comes from "the land of the rising sun" but the shortened version is seen as a nasty term of abuse. It's the same for many other terms for people from other demographics. Come on, It's not that difficult to understand.

I speak about any racial group how I find them when having dealings with them or reading about them..
The next time I'm slating some white scumbag I will add honky or something to show my impartiality when referring to scumbags.

If you're in the Sociology department at Loughborough or Keele there's a doctoral thesis in knowing these categories and distinguishing among them, Kvalidir.

That apart, do you think the common perception of the most common group - that it's responsible for filth and petty crime - is a distortion or exaggeration on the one hand, or largely fair comment?

By the way, which is the specific agreeable sub-group which "winter[s] on our ground every year"?
Talbot, you may recall that on the thread about the burglary that presumably sparked this thread, I said I thought the burglars had it coming to them and that I would have done the same as the pensioner. I stand by that, but just because THIS burglar happened to be a Traveller doesn't mean anyone can sling about racial slurs as though it relates to anyone and everyone in any of the travelling groups. That is not only unfair, inaccurate and wrong, it's just *** stupid as well.
I don't see how there is any racial slurs. As far as I'm concerned they are white, paleface, honky *** intimidating an old man.
