No the US are not in the least bothered about the British people, they just selfishly want to use UK as a voice in European affairs.

Obama and the US finance chiefs are not giving an opinion on what's best for Britain, but on what's best for the US. Oh and a large part of Obama's visit is to promote the Transatlantic Trade & Investment Partnership, aimed at forcing Europe to accept huge quantities of the GM food produced in the US.

He must be joking. The reality is that the USA only got involved in WWII when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbour. They vehemently refused to have anything to do with the war in Europe until then and would stood by to watch Britain razed to the ground.

Much as I like Mr Obama, I do think he taking a step too far here.

His notion that the deaths of Allied soldiers in WWII mean that the U.S. has a stake, and indeed an opinion, on the future of the EU is frankly not sustainable.

I doubt that anyone will take a lot of notice of his view - but he is entitled to voice it - that's freedom of speech.

They may have entered later, but a visit to the American war cemeteries in France - the scale is an awesome experience, (as is all the others including Canada). Though I'm not sure why it gives them a stake in the referendum, if that were true it would mean that so do all the commonwealth members too.
The Americans didn't fight to liberate Britain (we weren't occupied). They fought to liberate France and put an end to all nazi ambitions.

That isn't true, we didn't need ground support, but we got support from America in the form of in-flight refuelling of our aircraft.

Out of interest, is it his intervention that you object to - or his support of the remain campaign?

Would you have raised this question had he come out strongly in favour of the U.K. leaving the EU?

Nice observation Khandro. Plus the American Indians might be entitled to more say in the Senate. Didn't they die in their hundreds of thousands fighting for freedom from oppression.

By the way, read the Obama article, please - if you do, you will realise that he opined only after making the following conditional statement, "But also I understand that there's a spirited campaign underway here. My country is going through much the same. And ultimately, the question of whether or not the UK remains a part of the EU is a matter for British voters to decide for yourselves."
