In the good old days, we used to answer the telephone with 'Hello, Whitehall 231.' With the rise of mobile phones and spam calls that doesn't seem sensible.
So, what's a polite way to answer one's mobile phone?

I just say hello.
I believe that "Yo, how's it hangin' bro' " is recommended by Debrett's these days ...
If it is someone I know and I have their number stored they are displayed as the caller so I address them by their name.

If it is an unknown caller I answer 'Hello Eccles Cake'
Unknown number, no thankyou.
If it's someone I know in my contacts the caller will be displayed so I say hello honey or whatever. If it's anonymous or unknown I still answer just 'hello' but in a tone of who the hell are you and how did you get this number.
I answer if I know who it is. I 'Red Button' people who I do not have stored.
If it's someone I know (as shown on display) then "Hi", otherwise "Hullo".

I tend to say 'hull-oh' but like the idea of saying 'Hello, Eccles Cake'. Could catch on.
I'm nearly the same as Eccles. If it is someone I know, I will say "Hello ****". If it is someone I know really well, I might be slightly insulting. If it is someone I don't know I answer with a Hello and then my name.
Never give my name.

We won't.

To numbers I don't know, Good morning, Cad bury Schweppes, how can I help you.
To friends and family, Hiya so and so, hows you?
If it's someone in my contacts list, I answer with the word: Speak.

If it's an unknown number I don't bother, they can leave a message.
If it is an obviously dodgy number then I don't answer if it is a legit looking number then I answer Hello Eccles Cake,

Simple - don't have a mobile. Problem solved.
