If Scots vote for independance, would the Union Flag have to be redesigned, removing their part?

I hope so.
I would like to leave it unchanged, just to annoy Alex Salmond.
I doubt the Hawaiians would bother changing their flag, so I don't see much point in Little Britain doing so. They'd have to stop calling it the union flag, though.
Think an independent Scotland would continue to fly the saltire with pride, just as we do now.
http://www.dailymail....ental-questions.html. The Mail printed what like the Union Flag would look but all they did was remove the blue and they didn't re-position the St Patrick's Cross.
the Mail seems to have had second thoughts about whatever that story was, TCL
Well, as I understand it, the original and very basic Union Flag was actually designed by a Scotsman, namely, King James VI/1 at the time of the union of the crowns. Maybe the Scots are more entitled to take it AWAY with them if they go than the English are entitled to KEEP it!
Ironically, Scotland joined the union because the country was bankrupt. The rest of the union supported Scotland economically for several centuries. I wonder what makes them think that they can make a go of it now.
Booming Haggis exports jom ;-)
yes, the saltire stays in Scotland and we can have the Flag of St George, just as the Welsh and the Irish have their respective flags.
A new flag would be good light blue for a summer sky above and green below for our green and pleasant land with a rose in the centre
With Scotland gone the new union flag should be the Stars and Stripes with another star added.
so no union flag at all, em? Do you think there should be no union at all either?
I don't think so wharton - in Blair days yes, but not now.
Don't worry, the Scots aren't going to go anyway.
I agree Hopkirk. Voting to stay in the union will give us carte- blanche to wheedle every bawbee from Westminster that we can.
Maybe not haggis, Nox, but certainly booming whisky exports and - given that Scotland has a North Atlantic coast while England does not - it has free access to the oil there as that area's production expands and the North Sea's dries up. Oh, and also given the hosepipe ban in lumps of England already, Scotland could happily provide England with tankersful of water...at a price, obviously!
Apart from financial services, which many claim could disappear to Geneva at a moment's notice, and some luxury goods, what does England have that anyone else wants to buy? BAe, the major manufacturer, is closing depots and sacking people by the busload.
Quizmonster, when you send my tankerful of water, can it be flavoured with just a twist of lemon, please? My lawn is particular.
There does seem to be something wrong with the link provided by TCL.

Perhaps this was intended:-

Ron.
I'm glad you mentioned your lawn, J. When I read your opening sentence, I was appalled to imagine that anyone would dream of putting lemon in their whisky!
By the way, the tankers I had in mind were not bowsers that pull up at your individual door but vast sea-carriers that have to dock somewhere on the coast.
