Bird scarers, more like.
Question Author
Do bird scarers sound like very low pitched guns? How do you explain the one bang I heard when that person got out of the car?
Coincidence
Molly, we told you before. It's people out shooting.
When you find out for goodness sake let us know so we can forget about it.
you live in the country, you hear bangs across fields then it's people shooting.

"Do bird scarers sound like very low pitched guns"

do you get high pitched guns then?
"How do you explain the one bang I heard when that person got out of the car?"

Probably a gangland execution.

There aren't any game you'd shoot. In all my 17 years, i've only ever seen 1 monkjack deer, and the rabbits stay in a field half a mile away, to eat the crops they prefer. And if people did use the field for shooting, how come i haven't heard the gun before a few weeks ago? Or a birdscarer for that matter?

mike only one person got out of the car, so ha.
A gangland suicide?
Maybe this is a person new to shooting who doesn't realise there are no rabbits in that field. I expect he'll get wise to it after a while and go away.
if it is a bird scarer the bangs will be timed as they fire automatically, so if they are every 5 mins, 10 mins etc. then it is a bird scarer.

If they are a indiscriminate they are bangs from a gun, often you will hear two bangs in quick succession, assuming it is a double barrelled shotgun, being a lower pitch than the crack of a rifle.

I've still only heard one today . . . .
There were three people in the car. One got out. One of the remaining two still in the car shot the other. They will bury the body in the big black dome with a fence around it under tons and tons of road grit. It all fits together nicely.
That's good mike and chuck.. Makes things a bit more exciting. A drive by shooting perhaps. Blood in the snow. Yes! ( I think I read too many detective novels, or watch too many gory films on tv.)
You have muntjac deer around you? cool, surprised you see them, they are very shy.

If the shooting is after dark then they will be lamping rabbits or fox maybe, after dark there will be far more rabbits in the fields that you don't see during the day.
Question Author
OMG mike it all make sense now!!!!!!!!!!!!

A drive by shooting in a field though, when the person that got 'shot' got out of the car, they might even have been the driver . . .

I've only ever seen one full deer and a think the behind of another as it ran away cos molly barked.
Molly barked? Are you a dog? Is this the first time we have had a dog on Chatterbank? Can dogs read or type? If it was a car Molly it would have had to be on the road not in the field. Unless it was a 4x4 or whatever they are called.
You are not up to speed, Star. Molly is her username, but actually it's the name of her dog.
ChuckFickens: do you get high pitched guns then?

It could have been The Sopranos.
probably some prat playing god with an air rifle
