In all my 17 years, i've only ever seen 1 monkjack deer, and the rabbits stay in a field half a mile away, to eat the crops they prefer. And if people did use the field for shooting, how come i haven't heard the gun before a few weeks ago? Or a birdscarer for that matter?

if it is a bird scarer the bangs will be timed as they fire automatically, so if they are every 5 mins, 10 mins etc. then it is a bird scarer.
If they are a indiscriminate they are bangs from a gun, often you will hear two bangs in quick succession, assuming it is a double barrelled shotgun, being a lower pitch than the crack of a rifle.
