Was going out with a girl and found out due to a raid at 3am in the morning by the anti terrorist squad that her dad was the Mardi Gra bomber and therefore classed as an international terrorist. I had press following me around and people breaking into our flat while we were out to find photo's of her dad.
i used to cycle past my dads house on the way to school and would glance through the window to see if he'd left for work and whether the cleaner had arrived. the strangest thing that ever happened to me was being told the 'cleaner' at my dads house didnt exist and was a ghost (my dad had seen her too, previous occupant apparently).
When I was young, from the age of about six or so, we lived in a 'haunted house'. You may scoff, but on a regular basis, the lightbulbs in our lounge would unscrew themselves, and if you saw the first one going, you could catch the second one as it fell. On one occasion, when my stepfather's sister came to stay with us for a while, she turned the light on in the room that she was staying in, unpacked her bag, turned off the light and left the room, just as my mother was bringing up a lightbulb to put in the empty socket. Also, one day my Ma was cooking dinner, put the bottle of cooking oil on the table, turned around and it was gone. After hunting around for it, she went two doors along to see my Gran to ask if she could borrow some, only to walk in and find the cooking oil on the stairs at my Gran's house. See? I told you that you may scoff. I know you asked for the strangest thing, but when things like that happen, it's hard to choose just one, and there ARE more, believe me.
I'm a freelance music writer, and I was watching Clif Richard film a TV insert in the Alton Towers gardens. It wasn't busy, but there was Cliff, and several sound and camera crew, and his song playing quite loudly over the portable PA system. An old couple wandered into the shot, and "Cut!" was called. As the old lady wandered past, she told Cliff that he looked like Cliff Richard! "I am Cliff Richard," confirmed the bemused superstar, gesturing at the crew, equipment, cameras etc. "Yes, dear, very nice ..." said the old lady wandering on, which proves that old people frequently don't see what's infront of them, and even more often - they don't listen!
My friend and I were mugged by four squirrels. We were sitting on a bench in the park on our lunch hour, with a Tesco baguette, Philadelphia and some cakes.

First we heard the tree above us being shaken, next thing we knew we were being bombarded by twigs and leaves, then a squirrel flew down (presumablly from the tree) and started clawing at my friend's hair.

In the meantime, while I was trying to extract the squirrel from her head, there were two others by my feet scrabbling inside the Tesco carrier bag. By the time we fobbed off the 'head' squirrel, the others had made off across the lawn with our baguette and one of the cakes.

I think I can confirm that the creatures you encountered were in fact "tree rats", colloquially known as "grey squirrels" - they couldn't be more different from the angelic or "red" squirrels native to the UK.

Gilf, your answer is brilliant. If you care to, you may elaborate.
I spent 15 minutes writing the story before lunch but when I got back it had gone, not sure If I sent it and it was removed or it just went. Anyway theres not a great deal to tell but getting woken up at 3 a.m. by SO19 officers pointing a sub machine gun at you in bed is pretty unusual. They did a raid on the flat her mothers house and her dads house all at the same time. He didnt go to her flat much but they do it just incase. Its actually a brilliant story, if your into crime fiction try and get a copy its called "Welcome to the Mardi Gras Experience"
