Not sure if computers was the right place but here goes. I have just upgraded my iphone to ios8, reluctantly but some apps weren't available unless I did. since then, strange things have been happening. mainly that messenger is going not just to my phone, but also to our ipad, and my husband's iphone as well. now, phone calls to my phone are also going to the ipad and my husbands phone, even though obviously you cant answer a call on an ipad, and my husbands number is different from mine. what is going on here and how can I stop it.

oddly, you can answer calls on the ipad now. Who is signed on on your ipad?
Sounds like when you upgraded they have become linked - you can undo this but someone more technical will hopefully explain how.
Its much harder to share an ipad than it is a laptop as you can't put two logins on it in the same way. The person who is signed in in settings will be assumed to be the owner If there are other phone numbers on there then they will be assumed by the ipad to be linked so will send messages to all of them.

well I wasn't actually aware of anybody being 'signed in' to the ipad. will have a look in settings to see whats in there, but only thing I am aware of being signed in to is things like facebook, twitter etc. this never happened until I upgraded my phone.
Its a new feature.

The "owner" of each device is the itunes account - so if you use the same itunes account on a phone and the ipad, then that why your getting everything on his.

I tunes really confuses me. I have issues with it because I have a great deal of music in I-tunes, which I have placed there from cd's that I own. I want to be able to sync this music between our ipad and both I-phones, plus another ipad owned by a relative. if we each have our own I-tunes account, surely this wouldn't be possible. I don't like this feature and I really didn't want to upgrade but as there were apps that I did want, and they wouldn't work unless I upgraded I had no choice. I really like apple devices but I do wish they wouldn't keep giving you these new features that cause more problems than benefits.

oh, and I just thought, is an apple account the same as an I-tunes account. sorry to be so dim but I really do find some of this stuff un-necessarily complex
Your Apple ID will be an email address and to sign into iTunes you need an email address. In my case these email addresses are the same. You will always be signed into your iPad with your Apple ID. My CD collection that I downloaded myself into iTunes is now in iTunes Match which takes it off you devices and is in a cloud so you do not use ip loads of memory. iTunes Match also allows sharing so you can share this music with family. Not done this yet. If all the devices have the same Apple ID they will all revive the same notifications.

ok I think I get that. unfortunately I have so much music that I have put on iTunes myself that there isn't enough space in I cloud without paying for it, I have 5gb which is not enough and I absolutely refuse to pay apple for any more than I have paid already. so I-cloud not an option. that leaves me with how to stop these messages going to everybody on this apple id. I have no idea how to set up another one, this was done when we bought our ipad years ago, in the apple shop, and I admit I have never had to set up other. when my sister bought her ipad, she wanted all my music on it, to save having to do it all again, so she just uses our apple id. presumably all our messages are going to her as well!!! although she doesn't have an iphone and she only uses facebook messenger which I always thought was the same so there you go. just shows how much I know. my husband's phone though only has ios7 so not sure how that fits in with my phone upgrade to ios8. if I decide to set up an apple account for myself on my phone how do I get it unlogged from the current id, and logged to the new one. and will all the music I have on it then disappear. it is actually in the phones memory.
iTunes Match costs £20 per year to store your music. I always thought that you Apple ID/email had to be the same as your iTunes log in but someone else may know the answer. The only way you can stop messages etc to other devices is to reset your device if the other devices to factory settings and start over again. If you are not sure if you understand go to the Apple Store and ask. The after sales I have found is 2nd to none.

should have known to ask a kid. my grand-daughter said I needed to have a separate apple id for my phone if I wanted to have it separate from the other I phone. something to do with ios8 giving you things you don't want and haven't asked for!! I did that, logged everything on my I phone with the new id, and now only I get messages sent to me!!
