100% by definition
sot a willy questioid
Whenever I fill out the Electoral forms that pop through our letter box - I always cross out the word British & write English above it!

My prerogative!

In 1960 I would have said 100%. Nowadays we even have Scots MP's running England and when you add all the EU migrants and other asylum seekers, plus the so called English citizens that you see on TV that need an interpreter because they can't speak English...............need I say more ??
You and me both, smudge...
im english and proud i come from vale on trent anyone know where that is?
i agree with you smudge, i too cross out 'british' and write welsh, even though i live in your wonderfull capital
Depends how far back you want to go. As well as Celtic, Pict, Welsh, Irish, Scottish, Germanic there's a bit of Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, French, Italian et al.

Multi-culturalism is, and always will be what makes England English.
Didn't think I'd be alone with my sentiments!

Why shouldn't one write English, Irish, Scottish or Welsh, etc? It should be down to the individual & in my case I'll put what I am - English!
Because your nationality is British.
I was born In England, but I'm British. As in British army/navy British citizen with a British passport
I was born in England & as far as I'm concerned, I'm English.

I'm well aware that England is in Great Britain & I could call myself British, but I prefer not too.

Goodnight all!
Question Author
I call myself English too btw
I am British, I feel British, I prefer to call myself British rather than English, and England has got various ethnic and linguistic minorities in it. None of those facts negate or diminish in any way the fact that England is by definition 100% English. If you want to ask "How many people in England speak English / were born in England / call themselves English" etc, then that is a different question.
I think we are all aware of those facts - but everyone to their own.

So if you were to join the army, say, would you prefer not to join the British Army?
Question Author
I wouldn't join the Army.
That's not very English!
My Grandfather fought for his country in WW1.

Unfortunately, he never made it 'home' to ENGLAND, as he was killed in action & is buried in Ypres.

My other Grandfather fought for his country in WW2 & although badly injured, he did make it back to ENGLAND.

P.S. I don't think I'd have time to join the Army these days - I've been far too busy with in my life, bringing up two daughters (along with my husband), working hard achieving a successful career & now enjoying more leisure time, especially with my Grandchildren.
