To be Scottish, Irish or Welsh that's fine
But don't say you're English, that's way out of line.
The French and the Germans may call themselves such
So may Norwegians, the Swedes and the Dutch
You can say you are Russian or maybe a Dane
But don't say you're English ever again.
At Broadcasting House the word is taboo
In Brussels it's scrapped, in Parliament too
Even schools are affected, staff do as they're told
They must not teach children about England of old.
Writers like Shakespeare, Milton and Shaw
The pupils don't learn about them anymore
How about Agincourt, Hastings , Arnhem or Mons ?
When England lost hosts of her very brave sons.
We are not Europeans, how can we be?
Europe is miles away over the sea
We're the English from England, let's all be proud
Stand up and be counted - Shout it out loud !
Let's tell our Government and Brussels too
We're proud of our heritage and the Red,White and Blue
Fly the flag of Saint George or the Union Jack
Let the world know - WE WANT OUR ENGLAND BACK !!!!

He's obviously not been in a school for a long time, Shakespere is a mandatory part of the curriculum and My kids have both been doing World War I in history over the last couple of years.

is 100% correct,
Its this Labour Goverment, since 1997. they've been hell bent on watering down, and destroying the English character.

Gourmander, I'm not classed as English, according to my Army ID Card, and the Passport I had at the time, I am British/English, thats because my Father was born here, but my mother wasn't.
Its just that I can see whats happening to this country, and has been, ever since this Ant-English Labour party became the Goverment.

World War 1 wasn't mentioned, but seeing you brought it up, two years to study WW1?
In that time we covered the history of England, from pre-historic times, until the present at that time.
Perhaps not a in-depth study granted, but at least we left school knowing most of what happened in each dated period ie Kings & Queens, Dress, Living standards, military actions, and stages of discovery, etc,etc.

Yes thank you they understand the Shakespere very well.
About a term or a term and a half on WW1 as I recall assignments like having to critically analyse whether Haig was a bungling idiot or a good general.
But that's what a lot of people don't seem to like about the way history is taught now.
Kids are taught to critically evaluate evidence and to do things like question the reliability of sources
Of course every "right thinking Englishman" knows history should be taught as a narrative story of this great Island race never questioning perceived wisdom and emerging with a patiotic pride in their country!
(I won't take a cheap dig about Mons I'll put it down to over excitement on your part)

On the contrary it is the school children of today that leave school brainwashed by the liberal left school teachers that are predominate in our schools today.
They are taught to think that anything English is something to be ashamed of, and we should go through life apologising to all and sundry, for our past and present actions.
Regardless of what these traitors to our country try to preach them, they should Instead go through life with their heads held high knowing that they belong to the best country in the world, a country that most of the civilised nations of the world try very hard to emulate.
