why are people so nasty to the eldrely. it makes me sick. they should be treated with royalty and respect. they have had they're ups and downs in life so why top it off with little brats saying nasty stuff in they're most vunerable stage in life. the elderly are wise and make me laugh by telling funny stories.

people act as though their going to stay young all their life and won't become grandads or grandmas! the elderly have served the communities we live in so they deserve peace of mind. and i'd just like to say thank you to all the elderly people on AB for everything

i'm 20 years old.incase anyone was wondering!
i totaly agree, the elderly are lovley people who should be treated with great respect. Thank you aswell

Agree to some extent, but not all elderly are little "sweet tempered grannies and granpas".

I (hopefully) treat EVERY generation with the respect they deserve, however i'm sorry to say that the elderly can be the rudest generation we have!

Question Author
it depends on what they have had to go through in life. if you had had it hard all your life you would be a little grumpy too.
Yep agree, however this doesn't give you the right to inflict your grumpiness and often downright nastiness onto others does it?
not one bit however its not their fault i agree with 2nosey that it all depends on the type of life they've had
Question Author
yeah i suppose your right there but its not the grumpy ones that people are nasty to,usually its the ones who are nice and the ones who don't stand up to people being horrible to them.
saying that "the elderly" deserve respect and have had ups and downs etc makes just about as much sense as saying all elederly people smell of cabage. I.e. no sense at all. People are people and should be treated with the respect and courtesy that they afford to others. EG if they give you respect and courtesy, give it to them back regardless of whether they are 16 or 80
yes, i too get very annoyed when people don't help them or say they smell, of if they have disabilities and they make fun of them! I was 10 when my last grandparent died so i have grown up with out anybody elderly in my whole life basically, so whenever i meet the elderly i always help out etc. its been nice discussing opinions thanks and good night!!!!
and BOO when your old and grew and you smell and dribble your food me and 2nosey shall mock you and your opinions!
and BOO when your old and grey and you smell and dribble your food me and 2nosey shall mock you and your opinions!
Well said, Kazza.

I'm not saying all oldies are miserable old f*rts, but some of them hardly lead by example. It's not something that comes with old age either - chances are the miserable ones have always been like that.

At 46, I'm an in-betweeny, but I see more well-mannered teenagers than well-mannered oldsters.
Question Author
thanks for that kazza i didn't expect everyone to agree with me but tell me this is it alright to be nasty to someone who is frail, weak can hardly do anything for themself and the smallest thing said to them will hurt them in ways you can't imagine. i think a 16yr old could take nastiness because they're young and will get over it but an older person can't.the elderly have different ways of dealing with things to me age does matter!
Question Author

Jag-you say chances are that they've always been like that well i said it before in another post they have probably had hard lives and are hardly going to be happy in the end of it.

i never mentioned anything about the elderly being role models for us i simply mentioned they should to be respected and make the rest of what is left of their lives a bit more pleasurable.

Question Author

if the elderly say something nasty to you i know its wrong but you should'nt take it to heart and just ignore what they say it would be childish to argue with them just like it would be childish to argue with a 5yr old!

bestowing respect based on the amount of time people have left to live also makes no sense .. a 15 year old may have less toime left than a 95 year old,

and bestowing respect because people have gone through a lot also makes no sense to me ... should i respect a child molester unconditionally because what they have "gone through" has made them like they are?

i honsetly think the best policy is to treat people how you'd like to be treated

i dont think thats very respectful, comparing the elederly to children, do you :-)
Question Author

yeah but kazza who is more likely to die the young 15 year old or the old 95yr old?

and the child molester thing is an entirely different matter i'm talking about the elderly here.

i hope i haven't affended anyone in this thread if i did it wasn't intentionally and i'm sorry.

Question Author
i'm not saying it in that way kazza i'm just trying to point out that if they say something nasty to you so what! it's not the end of the world it doesn't matter.
