Are there any famous people who contribute a whole lot to the society but have once been a prisoner? I am looking for their biography stuff.

Thanks a whole lot!

Look up Nelson Mandela for a start...
Adolf Hitler, though obviously not in a good way.
Oscar Wilde served time in prison

my one doesn't seem influential enough anymore - so how about winston churchill who spent time in a prisoner of war camp during the Boer war (he escaped though)

Stephen Fry, Jeffrey Archer, Daniel Defoe, Marquis deSade

Aaaaarrgghhh nelson Mandela!! (sorry, cant stand the man) what about Varahagiri Venkata Giri, who became Prime Minister of India
Jonathan Aitkin, Ricky Tomlinson
that's odd mycats, Mandela speaks so highly of you...
Eamon de Valera, Michael Collins, Lech Walenska, Ian Wright,
sorry jno, did I over react? lol
Ho Chi Minh (Vietnam), Lee Kwan Yew (Singapore), Mahatma Ghandi (India), and don't forget John Bunyan who wrote "Pilgrim's Progress" while in jail.
er hugh grant, not sure if he qualifies, ( he's cute though)
Emmeline, Christabel and Sylvia Pankhurst were all imprisoned for their involvement in the women's suffrage movement at the beginning of the twentieth century.

There is of course, also Rev. Ian Paisley, Mr. Gerry Adams et al.

Jonny Vaughn - not entirely sure about his contribution to society thou ...
There's the 'protest' poet, Benjamin Zephaniah.

Not sure how you'd feel about Johnny Cash. There's also Malcolm X (although the authenticity of Alex Hailey's biography of him is much disputed).
There's one or two footballers aswell, Tony Adams and Jan Molby spring to mind, oh and a little known one called George Best.
Leslie Grantham, David Dickinson, Stephen Fry, Sofia Loren
My mate Big Vern.
Since he has been out he has done me loads of 'favours'.

i've heard john mcvicar has done some stuff, not sure what though.

he started as a common no-good criminal and became a minor celeb whereas manyof the others named are celebs who have done wrong, so there may be a different angle there
