Just saw this and wanted to say how it's a great loss. I thought Linda Smith was really funny, often saw her on programmes such as Have I got News For You, Mock the Week and QI, though I didn't realise she was so seriously ill.

Oh my goodness I had no idea either. What a terrible shame - I agree, she was hilarious.

Great on the News Quiz on Radio 4 too. I didn't even know she was ill.
Yet again what a sad loss at such an early age.

oh that's really very sad indeed. I had no idea she was ill. She always made me laugh, very witty and sharp. Best wishes to her friends and family.

How very sad & at such a young age!
A great shame indeed. Linda Smith (or as I knew her, The One I Always Get Confused With Hattie Hayridge) was somone I rated far above many better-known comics. Very sharp and clever, but also (something which seems to get left out of a lot of 'comedy' in its attempts to break new ground) genuinely funny.

R.I.P. Linda "Not Hattie Hayridge" Smith.

It's very sad. She also had a serious side and was president of The British Humanist Association. She helped raise its public profile and non religious ideals. She will be missed by all members, I'm sure.

I was really shocked and saddened when I heard this on the news last night. What a loss. Does anyone know for how long she had been ill or what type of cancer she had?
Question Author
DavidUK, one of the links on the BBC news articles is a tribute by Jeremy Hardy. He says that it was ovarian cancer, and she had been diagnosed three and a half years ago with it.
Apparently the Friday edition of 'The News Quiz' (6.30pm Radio 4) will be a tribute to her.
