Would you be bothered if it was compulsory to carry ID?
I wouldn’t , if you’ve nothing to hide then carrying it like you would your bank card?

I wouldn't care if I had to produce ID, though I don't like the idea of a passport as such, I have no other method of recognition.
don't know why its Big Brother, I guess with more cctv than people, and racial profiling, it can seem a little over the top, but as you say if you have nothing to hide -

I wouldn’t mind it being a card with a chip which has your info on it Emmie but like bank cards I dare say that’ll be open to abuse
I am sure they would.
I carry notarised photocopy of my passport and also driving licence. Law here to show ID if asked by police
I have no photographic id whatsoever, Bobbi. No passport, no driving licence and, until next March, no bus pass (probably done away with 'em before I get my mitts on one). And, to be totally honest, I've only ever needed photo id on a few occasions in the last 30 odd years. The last time I needed such, I nipped round to the bank for a print-out of my statement. Which was accepted as proof of my id.

I’ve copied our PPs to a passport photo size and laminated them, we can carry them in purse and wallet
Could also be pubs checking for age compulsory in most USA states
actually I have a Freedom pass for travel on buses, tube, that has my name and photo on it...
I have no objection to an ID Card.

I mean more to carry when you’re in another country , bus passes wouldn’t suffice I doubt
Oh.

I don't go to other Countries, hence - no passport.
no i'm not in favour of compulsory ID, the state should never have that kind of power. The boozers may ask for ID, it's not compulsory.

Many’s a universal one which would bd useful for everything here and abroad

Just as a debate TTT, Why would it bother you?
Don't think many on here would need Id to prove their age. Just ask them to remove their masks. Problem solved.
All pubs want is a phone number and if you have to book to get in, surely they will have that anyway?
Are they actually asking for ID? Or just your details?
The only reason to be wary is......because as soon as there is such a thing as an ID card then some one somewhere is going to make it their "business" to ask to see it. No one has a reason to check your bank card unless you are shopping or making a financial transaction. No one has a reason to check your passport unless you are crossing borders that require one. No one has a reason to check your driving licence unless you are in charge of a vehicle that is, or may have been involved in an accident or the facilitation of a criminal offence. Other examples are available of course. An ID card means that someone somewhere is going to want your name and address for no other reason than they can o that they mean to cause you a bit of grief. The examples that I quickly gave are not compulsory and are not "necessary" if you are so minded. The ID card would give you no choice.

P.S. Only the Beep Beep See can demand that you produce your licence.
