Having watched The Masters last night, I got the impression that Patrick Reed is not very popular in Augusta. When he played his second shot onto the green at the last hole, there was a stony silence. No response from the crowd at all, and just polite applause as he walked onto the green, in contrast to the reception and applause for Ricky Fowler. I wonder what all that was about?

The guy just isn't a popular person. He is a bit too brash for the gentle folk of Augusta. He also has a bit of an history of bad-mouthing his opponents, which, in golf etiquette, just isn't cricket, old chap.

'Nice guys' can sometimes be creeps, viz. Gary Lineker. Also anyone (in any sport) leading all the way from the front as Reed did, is never going to grab the public's attention like the one trying to fight his way from behind up to the lead.
I tend to agree with what Chris Chase said at the close of his article linked to by 'our' Chris, above.
Rory didn't quite make it, but I'd give a lot to have a swing like that :0)
He is a bit brash and he might have cheated at college. He is also a terrific player with an amazing record in the Ryder Cup. If the Americans don't want him can we adopt him?
Steady on Garaman, we're still trying to get over the return of that shy, retiring wallflower John Barrowman. :-)
