It's my Mum's 60th birthday in November this year and I along with family and friends want to do something very special, which she deserves but won't financially blow us out of the water!!! Any suggestions/ideas would be gratefully received! Thanks.

A Hot Air Ballon ride - which you can all go & watch?
Or - if you live near a canal - you could all take her on a 'Cream Tea Afternoon Cruise'.
Have you had family photos taken?  My brother and I had one done for my mum's 50th and she loved it.
Family must have heard over the years what her dreams are. She mightn't have had much time for herself, and a long weekend at something like a health hydro would be nice - a bit of pampering there, and most have a bargain day or two at certain times.  Or she might like a camcorder so she can take shots of you all over the years ahead.  The balloon ride is a lovely idea, but she might be scared.  Daring things become more scary because we subconsciously become more worried about self-survival as we get on in life.  If there is a party for her, it's good to get hold of people who were in her life at various points along it, people she hasn't seen (and would want to!) for a long time e.g. a long lost schoolfriend, early friends, someone only corresponded with, and so on.  Whatever you choose I hope  you all have a lovely time.
Whoops - a Hot Air Balloon Ride even (it must be the weather)!
We took my Mum to a horse racing meeting for her 70th, something she had never done before, and she loved it.
