Dwarf throwing is being considered as an Olympic sport; whilst in France the sport has been banned one French Dwarf has even taken his case to the human rights committee at the U.N, do you think it's wrong of right? Take a look at the websites first and look at the the rules on site one.

Dwarf

The reason I ask is the landlord of are local is thinking of having a Dwarf throwing night and has two Dwarfs interested as long as the money is right.

If the dwarves are happy to be thrown, really don't see a problem.

Much in the same way as I don't have a problem with beauty contests - if the girls are happy to be paraded up and down in front of judges, then great.

Let 'em get on with it.

What I do object to is other people being self-appointed moral arbiters on what dwarves can and cannot do.

PS - I wonder how long it will be before somebody on this site objects to the word 'dwarf'.

Next your have people running dragging a sack covered with a foxes scent and hounds following behind, whats next the hounds actually hunting the man? what on earth has owning a gun got to do with it nowhere does it say they are going to shoot the Dwarf, Andy your argument is very week .If they are happy to earn a living this way then its up to them as the Dwarf in France has said there is very little work for Dwarfs. Its up to the individual Dwarf its his or her choice no one elses.
Ducati and MadgeB you beat me to it, I totally agree with both of you let them earn a living. andy I totally disagree with you I think drug taking and prostitution are more important issues than dwarf throwing.

Yeah - its entirely a personal choice - if people want to be thrown OK - if they don't, then don't throw them - where's the problem???

I watched a couple of ''vertically challenged' men actors, being interviewed on TV once. They were asked whether it bothers them being called 'midgets' or 'dwarves' &  they both said they couldn't care a less what they were called, as they were both earning good money - acting.

I can guarantee, it wouldn't have bothered these two, to do what's being asked in the question.

They both knew they were 'different', but had a brilliant sense of humour.

I remember going to our local on a very hot Saturday afternoon last year as we approached the pub there was raucous laughter emanating from the open windows as we got into the bar the first sight to greet us was a dwarf whizzing along the bar (the bar is about 24ft long) at speed on a tray hanging on for dear life, the bar surface was covered in spilt beer there was one of the locals at one end and one at the other to catch him the first being the thrower the second being the catcher the idea of the game was to bet on the time it took him to travel from one end to the other, they had a man on the chalk menu board (the taker) putting the times on and taking the bets this went on for 2 to 3 hours before the landlord realized what was going on and put a stop to it. The dwarf stood on the table drinking at the bar and he seemed very happy. For every 1 bet he made 25p .The taker said the dwarf had made about 150 for two and a half hours work no wonder he was very happy I have to say I had never laughed so much in my life his face was a picture! He offered to do the same the following Saturday, Im not surprised making 150! If I were in his shoes I would do the same. I lost 20!

So I think dwarf throwing with their permission is acceptable.

Its up to them.Nobodys forcing them to do it are they!!wheres your pub madge.B.
For what it's worth I agree with Andy.  It is a sad state of things (to my mind) where people have to resort to this kind of thing to make a decent honest living.  I am against it for the same reason I am against all reality TV, Seven Up, Miss Universe etc. etc.
All the dwarf wants to do is capitalize on what he has his size if he were a 7ft tall basket ball player paid to put a ball through a hoop no one would say a word yet the basket ball player is as different as the dwarf is to the so called Mr. or Ms average 5ft8in to 5ft10in .Let him earn his living.

I also have a friend I went to school with her father is a dwarf and her mothers as well both their children are my old school mates they are normal height. When I saw this on AB I was outraged, and told my friend she went on answerbank and showed her father she phoned me back and told me that her father had said he had worked as an arm wrestler in the 1950s and this came as no surprise to him or her mother. I then talked to him he found it strange that anyone should get upset if a person is earning a living the best way they can. As he said no one would employ him at the time in normal work and he did not want normal work as he earned a lot more money that way. The same as the guy earning money at dwarf throwing as my friends dad said he earned a lot more money in the 60s and 70s doing similar work which helped pay for his house that he now owns, In a pickle my friends dad thinks your response is a total over reaction as he has said it is up the individual to make the best living they can and that is what he has done over the years if he could earn what this chap is earning dwarf throwing he would do the same, but as he said he is too old now. He also said that some years ago in his pub he uses a chap came in and took the pi$$ out of him he waited when the chap had a few beers he gave him a right hook in the crown jewels the chap doubled up and left the pub and did not return again all the people in the pub cheered, that pub is still the pub he uses and the regulars have great respect for him, height isnt everything but respect is all.If he thinks its ok to earn a living this way well I agree.
Suppose it's up to the people concerned, but personally the whole thing makes me a feel a little uncomfortable and I can't imagine myself going along to my local to watch, think I would sooner go to the dentist!!!
Its a good job we live in a democracy and those that want to earn a living can I personally would not go and watch but I defend the right of those that want to. On TV some years ago there was a Dwarf who was quite happy to get in cannon and fired across the studio as he said to the presenter when asked why he does it the police force dont seem to interested in recruiting dwarfs at the moment I think that sums it up if you want to earn the wages you have got to do the work.

As usual, I find myself in complete agreement with In a Pickle and Andy Hughes.

A civilised society has rules, not only to protect people from each other, but sometimes from themselves. If some people would happily fight lions in return for cash (and there would always be some sick members of society who'd watch it!), should we let them? Some people sell their internal organs for cash, should this be legalised?

Like Andy says, just because the dwarves themselves think it's acceptable doesn't mean that it is - I find it sick and demeaning (and how anybody could look on it as 'entertainment' utterly mystifies me)

Following on from my previous thread - I agree with Andy & IAP's points too, but was just reiterating what I'd heard the vertically challenged men saying on TV.

I certainly wouldn't go to watch Dwarf throwing either.

* I meant my previous post - not thread!

Again inapickle you well over the top its illegal to throw babies and what right have you to tell a dwarf he cant be thrown its a free country its his choice. I phoned my local to see if this is going ahead the landlord confirmed this I told him the comments made by your good self and others, he has said they approached him not the other way around and he is going ahead with it. As it turns out my husband wants to go away this weekend so we will not be at are local .I hope they enjoy themselves. We will just have to agree that we disagree . inapickle sit down have a nice cup of tea and a slice of cake put your feet up and relax .bye for now.
