/// During the investigation, which is likely to have cost taxpayers up to £100,000, Mr Loughton’s staff were also interviewed and hours were spent trawling through archives for evidence before it was abruptly dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service last month. ///

Was this MP being racist by referring to this troublesome constituent, as 'unkempt'.

It was only after the constituent explained that he was of Romany Gipsy descent that the racist accusation came into action.

Does this mean that this would have been deemed a lesser 'crime' if he had not been of a Romany Gipsy descent, and how was the MP to know this fact?

The worst racists as far as I can see are those who complain about racism...... Where in nearly every case there ISNT any!
The Contituent made a conplaint and the Police are obliged to investigate it.

The MP was extremely stupid in abusing his Constituent by email. There are laws against such malicious communication.

In the end nothing came of it.

End of story.

Please explain.

How is someone who complains about racism racist themselves?

Are you saying that their racism manifests itself in an underlying hated for the person they are accusing?

Are you seriously suggesting that these complainants are worse, say, than those who murdered Kris McDonald and Stephen Lawrence?

I think the parents of those two lads might take issue with you on that...
Ah,the weasel words "up to" again. "Up to £100,000 (cost)" So that could be 50 quid then. How on Earth could arresting a man, interviewing him, writing a report on one email and the statements from the complainant and suspect, and some CPS employee taking a of ten minutes to say "No", cost £100,000.

I do regret the passing of the old station sergeant. If this complainant had presented himself at his desk, he'd have told him "Mind how you go" and told to him leave the station. And any constable who arrested anyone in these circumstances would have been told that the sergeant wouldn't accept a charge and the man would be told he was free to go.
"Sussex police refused to answer questions about the cost of the investigation" somehow results in headline of "MP subjected to 6-month '£100,000' police racism probe" but then that is softened at the very bottom of the article with states "likely to have cost taxpayers up to £100,000".

UP TO £100,000 - might as well say cost up to £100,000,000 as it will have cost somewhere between 0 and £100,000,000.

The complaint had to be investigated - it was and the result was the police and the CPS (presumably) sided with the MP not the complainant, correct procedure followed.

That is the problem with having a free society - people are free to report things to the police that after investigation do not turn out to be crimes and therein lies the rub - how can you tell before you investigate something that you are actually wasting money investigating a non-crime.

Always quick to quote the Stephen Lawrence case and now Kris McDonald a white lad, but who was murdered by a group of Asians, but you failed to mention Danny O'Shea who had his throat slashed on his own door step by a gang of blacks.

Aren't you being rather selective in your examples?

The Danny O'Shea murder did not have any racial element, it was over a stolen mobile phone.

// The business partner of top sports agent Christopher Nathaniel was robbed by a gang of black men, a witness told the Old Bailey today.

Paul Boadi was held up by three hooded thieves and his mobile phone was taken after they were joined by four others.

A week later, Boadi and Nathaniel are alleged to have led a revenge team to track down the gang - and mistakenly killed white teenager Danny O’Shea, 18, the court heard. //

I believe the trial is currently ongoing.

/// subjected to a ‘humiliating’ six-month racism investigation by police ///

/// questioned under caution by detectives for 90 minutes. ///

/// Mr Loughton’s staff were also interviewed and hours were spent trawling through archives for evidence before it was abruptly dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service last month. ///

Six months investigation by the police, reviewed and thrown out by the Crown Prosecution Service, Mr Loughton’s staff also interviewed and hours were spent trawling through archives etc, etc.

Seems we are getting off cheaply at only £100,000.

// Six months investigation by the police...//

The police did not investigate this for six months. They were given the offending email by his accuser. They had all the evidence they needed to start with. The decission by the CPS not to proceed may have taken six months but that was waiting in a queue. The decission not to presecute will have taken minutes to arrive at.

The hours spent checking his emails was by his own staff. He had not been charged. They were wasting their own time.

'selective'?

I named (for balance) two very famous race murders.

I know these two lads' names. I had not heard of the story you posted, possibly because there wasn't a racial angle to it.

A racial angle is where someone is singled out because of their race surely? You know...like Anthony Walker (axed by white hoodie, who had been shouting racist abuse at him).

So why do you characterise that as a race crime?

Are you saying that whenever someone from one race commits a crime against someone from another race, that's automatically a racist crime?

Would a black burglar who robs a white household be committing a racist crime?

Would a white car thief who steals an Asian man's car be committing a racially motivated crime?

I'm not sure that your argument is very solid here.
aog, we are being told that the sum of £100,000; "likely" or "up to", a figure given nothwithstanding that the police have given no figures at all; is taxpayers' money.

Explain a) how the figure is arrived at b) how it is taxpayers' money and c) why the Daily Mail is inventing calculations
Sp,

The Mail readers are also back fro lunch and now there are comments. Most however seem to see it as a non story.
sometimes gypsies are their own worst enemy when it comes to their appearance and/or behaviour. i can say that....because i am one. i just choose not to look 'unkempt' or thieve from every person i meet.
as for spending £100k on this....someone needs to lose a job. pathetic.....
Uh-huh...exactly the responses I originally expected.

Bravo...

No, he'd be repaying them for 200 years of colonial oppression.

I assume chaptazbru's post is tongue-in-cheek.
