/// During the investigation, which is likely to have cost taxpayers up to £100,000, Mr Loughton’s staff were also interviewed and hours were spent trawling through archives for evidence before it was abruptly dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service last month. ///

Was this MP being racist by referring to this troublesome constituent, as 'unkempt'.

It was only after the constituent explained that he was of Romany Gipsy descent that the racist accusation came into action.

Does this mean that this would have been deemed a lesser 'crime' if he had not been of a Romany Gipsy descent, and how was the MP to know this fact?

I was enjoying watching the confusion.
no confusion, just someone misinterpreting the comments made, and is now in the picture.
em10

In my defence, I didn't misinterpret the comment - just the poster who made it.
i give up.
Yep...time to put this one to bed.

Especially as we've strayed WAY off topic...

another example of the whingeing, self-serving, poisonous bollo(ks that seem to have become your hallmark. "

so lets get this right, if you dont like or agree with certain things it then its poisonous
but its ok for you and others of your ilk to post what you see fit is it.

In view of this will questions and answers have to be vetted by you ?

Can you please inform us when you took ownership of this board and became one of its self styled censors ?
"just someone misinterpreting the comments made,"

as usual, nothing out of the ordinary there......but you have the bare faced cheek and temerity to do the same make assumption on what others may or may not believe, they dont like that and jwill be all over you like nasty rash

Actually, out of interest - do you think that the 'oppression payback' is an excuse that could ever be used?

Or has ever been used?
Well this discussion quickly stopped making much sense
*Iggy bows out*
haven't a clue who that was directed at but the thread has somewhat gone off the point,.
sp, some might do that, be so aggrieved at their treatment and want someone to pay...
em10

Some might, but has that ever happened?

It would be such a bizarre statement, that it would be embarrassing to say out loud.

It would, however, be interesting to see whether anyone actually HAS said this...or whether the idea is just the product of a fervent imagination.
the NAACP in USA may have fought black slavery cases, for the descendants of slaves, it's a distinct possibility, in pretty much the same way recompense was paid to Native Americans for the slaughter and injustices heaped on them, lands being confiscated and not paid a penny, until more recent days. Not exactly sure this is the same matter of course, but could be.
em10

But aren't we talking specifically about burglars?
Can anyone tell me if the Romans and the Vikings ever paid us for what they did to the natives of what is now known as Great Britain all those years ago ? or have we just got over it and went on getting on with our lives without asking for recompense ?
"or have we just got over it and went on getting on with our lives without asking for recompense ? "

yes , but then we probably didnt/havnt got a massive chip on our shoulders and think that the world owes us something

Can you address a copy of another ABers post at the actual ABer who posted it.

When I first read this I thought I can never remember posting any comments that offended you so much. Having now scrolled back and read all the comments it now seems obvious to me now that you had copied and posted what I assume was the deleted answer.

Any idea who posted that? Cheers.

To explain - someone earlier proffered the idea that black burglars might claim that when they burgle white households they might claim that they are 'repaying them for 200 years of colonial oppression'.

Still not sure how serious that statement is...and then em10 referred to the work of the NAACP, in the US which is lobbying for reparations from companies who profited from slavery, or who had direct ties with slave traders.

Not sure how a lobby group in America could have any impact on the British judicial system...especially when we're talking about someone charged with a crime - but I suppose it's an idea...no matter how unlikely.
sp, i know we were but this was also about the comments you made, or someone made about oppression, related to a black man, its too much sorry i have gone to commit hara kiri

No, he'd be repaying them for 200 years of colonial oppression.

In response to my post of:

Would a black burglar who robs a white household be committing a racist crime?

This is where the burglar/oppressed thread came from...
i am metaphorically lying bleeding on the floor as we speak, life and love is ebbing away, my comments were not intended to be interpreted literally in the sense of the NAACP having any impact here, i made the point that some people may have fought for monies, recompense because of the oppression, racism towards their ancestors, which incidentally would also have been black British, seeing as how many of today's Black British are descendants of slaves centuries ago.
Slaves who were used on the Caribbean islands, and also in the Americas.
