I know there's a similar thread going on, but I'm thinking about home shopping for the first time. can anyone recommend the best for quality, accuracy, charges, delivery times and whatever else I haven't even considered?

I work full time and can't face the weekly shop.

thanks :o)

Hello Sara, it is all rather subjective and what suits one doesn't always suit another. I would suggest you register with all of them (not necessarily at the same time) and give them all a trial. I have come down to Sainsburys for the most efficient and best for me. Tesco has the best website, Asda are the cheapest and Waitrose are the dearest. Tesco give you a two hour delivery slot and I think it is them that offer you 10 if they are late - but the drivers often argue that they were there on time but had to do some paperwork - so it doesn't always work. Sainsburys give you a one hour slot, as does Asda. The costs are pretty standard, about 6 for weekend and between 3 and 4 for midweek. Some give you free delivery if you spend over 100 but I haven't so far been able to achieve that. :)
I use Tesco & Asda. There's not much difference in delivery charges, around 5.50. It's best to go on mysupermarket.com first to compare prices and see who's got the best offers on.

thanks Daisy and Kat. I just went to the Tesco site and can see everything but the charges involved. that's a bit naughty re the paperwork excuse!

I'll check out the mysupermarket site, thanks x
I've tried Sainsburys and Tesco and consider that the best of the two was Sainsburys. Tesco substituted too many things for their "own brand" products and when they delivered, the trays were dumped in the hall and I had to unpack them all--never again for me!
You'll find the delivery charges appear on the delivery page, you need to book a delivery slot before you start your shopping - most of the sites prompt you to do this first.

I saw that on the Tesco site. I guess 5 is fine compared to going out on a Sunday in the cold and rain!
I love my Tesco team - carry all the bagged shopping into the kitchen in trays and put the bags where I want them. They make sure I'm hapy with everything before they go - I never feel rushed.

I have them mid-week when it's cheapest
Looks like I was just unlucky with my delivery man then Ethel ;o)

I might give Tesco a go then. I registered with them a whole ago but have never placed an order.

what I actually want is someone to come and cook it all for me.. I guess that might get a bit dear!
Some interesting facts.
1. You can usually choose between bags or no bags.

2. Some of the supermarkets will offer to carry your shopping into the kitchen, or not if you so choose.

3. The driver will take your used carrier bags no matter which supermarket they originated from.

4. Sainsburys offer an evoucher against your next shop in place of a refund, you have the choice of accepting it or not.

5. You can amend your order up to the day before delivery, the website will tell you the rules about amendments.

thanks again to all. I'll try out Tesco then moan at you all if it doesn't go well ;o)

Ethel, do you know if Tesco charge the same Mon-Fri? is it dearer in the evenings?

This will give you all the details of Tesco's delivery charges. Don't take any notice of the availability here, that is for my local store.

that's what I needed to see Daisy, thanks x
Hi sara. I can highly recommend Sainsbury's home delivery. I've been using them for a couple of years and i'm delighted. I only tried Asda once, and they were diabolical.
Sains used to offer free mid-week delivery on orders over 70, but now it's 100. But as a smoker, i order cigs to take the total to 100 most weeks. Well- it's money i would spend anyway ;) xx
Question Author
thanks Baths. I think I'd be hard pushed to spend 100 (unless they can deliver petrol!).

the problem is, when I go to a supermarket I buy stuff I don't need, so spend much more anyway. some of my bills have been shocking!
Just for comparison purposes, here's Sainsbos delivery schedule.

Understood Sara! Even so, i think a midweek delivery is only 3.50, and they are great with timing- if they are running early they always phone to check i'm in, and they are rarely late, and if they are they always give me a 10 voucher xx
Question Author
I can't find their delivery prices. maybe I need to register on there first.
Question Author
sorry, ↑ that was for Daisy.

maybe I'll try Sainsburys then.

perhaps I should have asked whose delivery drivers were the best looking ;o)
I order from Tesco too & I'm happy with the service.
It'll take what seems like quite a while to do the odering the first couple of time until you get used to it. There's a 'my favourites' section which will keep a record of all the items you buy, you can click onto that next time you order & it'll be easier for you to select items for shopping from there and do the rest of your shopping too.
