Does anyone know if HMV still take cheques?

Lots of shops dont anymore.Iknow from personal experience many customers write cheques when they have no cash in the bank.
The banks do not honour cheques even if the bank card is present .
ive known businesses lose 500 pound in a month from serial cheque bouncers.

Yes I do have a debit card Legend but it's reached the end of it's life and my bank are in the process of replacing it. I need to get a present for somebody at lunchtime today. I was hoping I would be able to use a cheque rather than a credit card, while I wait for my replacement debit card.

your bank are a bit slow I usually get replacement about a month before, Slackers!! You can try but they may need to back it up with card and if its out of date then you wont be able to

go to your bank with cheque book and take out cash!

I agree with 4getmenot, you have a very slow bank. Could you not borrow some money from a friend, and tell them it is an emergency, and you will pay them back as soon as you can? This is the only thing I can think of, in this situation.

HMV probably have a store card. you could take home half the shop for nothing, then forget about it!

thanks everyone for your replies. It's not an emergency, I was just wondering, and hoping I could get this gift at lunchtime.

My bank is not slow, my card has not expired. It has got damaged and yesterday got rejected for the 3rd time so I reported it. My bank are sending me a replacement which could very well have arrived at home today.

I'm not going to bother anyone by asking them for a loan. I'll simply get the present another day.

I have a chequebook in my bag and thought it might be an option to use it.
