is this what you do at home for free? Then you're qualified. Would you also have to arm-wrestle 20-stone drunks out onto the street?

I am a bit embarrassed re the old raddled face with the beautys. Lol
If it's not for the money and just something to pass the time, why not offer your time to a charity shop a couple of days a week
A pub job might be more fun if you enjoy a bit of banter.

I have worked in many pubs from 1970s - although two or three nights - worked in Civil Service during the day for 40 years.

sadie - I am sorry to say this put clothing on hangers etc doesn't do it for me. I can hardly hang my own clothes up. Do like the banter in the pub but of course am sure all so different now.
There are a lot more options for volunary work than charity shops, JJ.
Befriending lonely older people for a chat and cuppa once a week; helping children to learn to read; working in the local library; teaching young adults life skills such as cooking, budgeting, preparing for job interviews; driving people who need help to get to day care centres, hospitals appointments etc; hospital wayfinder or ward volunteer; animal rescue centres; doggy walking for people to sick to walk their own dogs; National Trust volunteer - the options and opportunities are endless
You'll be great in the pub, JJ. Of course you can do it.

Barry some years ago - I had just retired and so had time to spend. I volunteered to teach you know people who couldn't read write and count etc. Did not know that when I went down to the centre - I am surrounded with exam papers equivalent to GCSE. I was to learn all this. Meanwhile I am looking for the pupils - we were all there for the same thing. I never went back.

I just wanted to give one to one and I know I would have been good at it. But it never happened. I wasn't in for GCSEs - when I got them many years ago. People couldn't organise a pi$s up in a brewery.
