Why is it now that E-Bay is full of overpriced new items from companies and not the cheaper 2nd hand stuff as it was years ago.....just looked to buy a dvd that sells on amazon new for 14.99 and some ebay sellers have it up for 36 pounds...crazy... they obviously not going to sell it at that price with so many cheaper ( none cheaper than 19.99 ) so whats the point?

Just look for the cheapest, simple.
You can search eBay for used items only and sort them by price from highest to lowest or lowest to highest. There are lots of other search options like nearest to your postcode, soonest ending or newly listened.
You need somewhere like Gumtree for 2nd hand stuff now
There are still bargains from genuine sellers to be had
eBay still has 1,000 of times more items than gumtree. Over 26 million items at any one time.
You'd be surprised. Some years ago I bought a boxed set of videos of an old sitcom from Woolies for £9.99. When I'd watched it I put on eBay and sold it for £60. Naturally I bought more and they all sold for between £40 and £70. They were not available on any other website and I people didn't think to visit their local Woolies.

Many people still assume eBay means cheapest and have never bothered to shop around.
People will always try to sell things for the best price that they think they might get for them and they don't always research prices before offering things for sale. (There's a charity shop near to me which often tries to sell secondhand clothes from, say, 'George' at prices much higher than they're still being sold new in Asda. It's simply a lack of research by the shop's manager).

eBay can still help out at times. I recently looked for a rare DVD on Amazon, to find that it was offered at £110. I bought it from a US eBay seller for a third of that price.
Facebook selling pages is where many sell unwanted goods these days.
Perhaps folk got wary of winning the auction and finding they got some worn out second hand junk; so the new items got more attention.
