I don't think I would have cared to have gone through all they have, just for £500,000.

They also lost their yacht, that must have been worth a few quid, and I don't think their insurance will pay out for that.

Be a nice gesture if they gave half for the forming of a hostage fund..
Sooooo not worth half a million.
But then again, if I contacted the NotW and said I had slept with Jeremy Paxman, or David Beckham or Gordon Ramsey...... I'd probably be offered half that....

Mmmm........I am skint ;-)

Hi aog, so who's fault was it that they got in that state in the 1st place THEM and now THEY get compensation for it im sorry thats not right!
Absolutely agree bernie... muppets is a good description. it's people like them who make us real sailors seething mad....
Well aint you full of the milk of human kindness bernie?!

Do you also go to shopping centers at Christmas and punch Santa?
I'd go to a shopping centre and sh** santa in a changing room if he looked like Billy Bob Thornton in Bad Santa.....

favourite line from that film, from that particular scene "I couldn't sh1te for a week....."

Love it.....

boo
1. yes!
2.yes!
you're just sorry you didn't think of it first. You could still try it, though, hand yourself over to pirates for a year and see what happens.
Rape and pillage more like.

I shall have to ask Captain Pug if we can divert next year's Vendee trip to the Seychelles..... I could do with half a mill. I have a baby coming,.,,, did I mention it?!!
Question Author
jno i'm not sorry at all
thought the R-Navy had recovered their vessel when it was floating around after they had been lifted off...... I have said it before, if they had no advice in the Seychelles before they set off, all very well to cash in.

If they did receive a warning to go much further south and then up to Tanzania, then the money should be used for compensating the costs of the security/FO etc etc - and I like the suggestion of a donation to say Help the Heroes or the R-Legion etc etc.

well said dt
They would have had warning - it is well known those waters are manned by pirates. They should have stuck to being part of a flotilla or a group, rather than wandering off on their own so to speak. They should give some of their fee to others who helped them I think.
Hi bernie

If you had posted a link to this story you would have found out that it is not compensation, only an estimated pay-out for the inclusive rights to their story, according to Max Clifford.

/// The Chandlers said the money would go towards repaying "certain immediate debts" resulting from their "unfortunate and troubling episode"///

Are you saying that given the chance you would not have also sold your story to the highest bidder?
bernie

the Chandlers aren't getting 'compensation' that's just your spin.

They are being paid a commercial rate based on publishers' assessment of the commercial value of their story. It must be judged that regardless of the debate over culpability, it does not detract significantly from people's desire to read their side of the story.

That's all there is to it - has little to do with how foolish or not they were.
.
I would....

I'd be feeling pretty darn stupid as well.
sorry old git.

Snap!
.
bernie6969 is correct they should not benifit from their own stupidity,i for one will not be reading the story.
Yes, and so are those Everest climbers, cross Atlantic rowers etc. but they make a nice penny selling their stories.
If that is how you feel softly that's fine - as long as you realise that we live in a market economy, so if others don't share your views, people with a story they can sell will still <<benifit from their own stupidity>>
.
