Im getting on and its been a few years since i left school. but can someone tell me how to simplify this

p x q = pq (Note: we leave out the times sign).

3p x 2q = 6pq (Multiply the numbers first and then the letters).

p2 x q3 = p2 q3

5 x q = 5q



So ... 4p x 2q = 8pq

Yes, the whole expression means :
4 x p x 2 x q

The convention is to write the simplified expression as 8pq but it would also be acceptable to write it as 8qp since the order of multiplication isn't relevant.
