my laptop has no sound

it stopped 3 weeks ago. is this something to do with space on the hard drive? when i tryed to fix it it said this device is not installed-dont know where it went. !!
can anyone advise me how to restore it please. cheers

You've lost your drivers somewhere.

Is it Windows XP - did you try the troubleshoot option in your list of installed hardware?

Have you tried a system restore to a time when the sound was working?

ethel, yes its windows xp
ive tried to install and im told i need a cd rom with the hardware.
ive tried to use the back up but it said no back up devices were avalible.
when in device manager half way down the devices their is a question mark at the other devices sign,then also at multimedia audio control, video control and video control (vga compatible). is this my problem? ive tried clicking and installing but to no avail. cheers

hi ethel ive been trying to figure this computer out and im gonna need my technical swot brother to have a look at it when he's back from holidays!!
