I passed my driving test about 2 weeks ago and was driving a car that wasnt mine an i wasnt insured! I was driving on a road near my house, i was going 35-40mph on a 30 zone, i was approaching traffic lights with a speed camera (on green), i slowed down to 30mph.. i looked up from checking my speed and RED light!! I was already past the line so i stayed on course and checked my speed again and i was going 35-37mph! What will happen now if ive been flashed?? how long does it take for the fine to arrive through the door??

Well two weeks have past now so you might have luck on your side if you dont hear anything this week you might of got off.
You will get a letter saying you where caught speeding at such a place date and time and the speed you where caught at.
The letter will state do you accept or want to appeal i accepted it.
At the time i got i think was a 40 and 3 points this was a couple of years ago now.
And get some insurance
What ever happens was it worth it.A child could of ran out then you would of been in a mess
Driving without insurance? Unaware of speed you were doing? You are not fit to be on the road.

ive asked this question for people to reply WITH answers to my questions, not people like yourself abc!!
If you are caught you will be banned.

6 - 8 points for driving without insurance, never mind the other offences.

As you newly qualified driver, 6 points is an automatic ban.
Oh, and a fine of up to 5000.
Question Author
oh my... never doing that again!! Thanks ethel.. others answers are welcome!
You will get a fixed penalty and points. Thats all.

You will get away with the no insurance this time. Don't do it again!!!
Question Author
is there anyway of avoiding the points??? id pay the fine, not lookin forward to the points!!
Question Author
also.. can someone tell me when ill recieve it??
Probably not a speed camera. It would be there to do you if you jump a redlight, which by your description you did.

Did it flash?

If you only passed your test two weeks ago, what on earth were you doing zooming up to traffic lights at 37? Did you learn nothing?

The first you will know is when the registered keeper gets a letter asking who was driving.

You will get points, and I hope it brings you to your senses.

Many people do modify their driving when they receive their first points. I did when I got my only 3 points for speeding12 years ago. Clean licence ever since.
as a fleet manager I have seen fines arriving 2-3 months after the violation occurred. So Alexjohn, you could be in for a long and nerve racking wait.

If you admit that it was yourself driving you will get point and definately a ban. If you get 6 or more you will be automatically banned, due to the new driver 6 points and your out rule.

In all honesty mate you deseve all that is coming to you for speeding, running a red light and not being insured. all that asside, there may be a way out for you on this one.....

When you get the fine, you can actually state that you were not the driver. Find some one that is willing (if possible) to take the points and state that they were driving your vehicle at the time. You pay the fine for them and they take the points. This will not put you in their good books but will save you the drving ban.
3 to 6 points for jumping a red.

Cross everything that it will be less than six.

Learn from this quickly or you are not in for a pleasant or reasonably priced driving career.

i know i deserve whats coming to me, im pretty gutted! My parent are going to kill me! The lights were on amber and i couldnt stop in time for the red, i didnt see the camera flash but then again.. i forgot it was there and it was behind me!
Just passed test? Uninsured? Speeding? Jumping a red light? Another wind-up? I think I am getting the hang of this game.
Have a look at this,

Maybe it would help ;-)

haha no thanks ucaps... against the law and dont want to get into anymore trouble!!
I think you'd know if it flashed, they're bright enough; I have been caught by a traffic light camera before and there were 2 very bright flashes. Admittedly it was just starting to get dark at the time which would make it more noticeable but I still don't think you'd miss it
Question Author
hmm.. nope i didnt see it flash, it was the morning aswell, around 10:30ish!
You might well have got away with it then but don't presume it. Mine was nearly 10 years ago so the type of flash they use may have changed. If you are caught, ask for a calibration certificate for the camera. If they don't have an up to date one you could get the charge dropped!
Don't waste your money on anti flash number plates. They don't work. The camera people just adjust the contrast until they can read the plate.
