I am not sure if this would be the right category, but it is worth a try...I need a homemade thing that I can make that will allow me to hear something better that I am hearing. There is this band playing a little ways away and I can hear it. I would like to be able to hear it a little better. I need something that can help me. Any ideas? Thanks!!!

I'm a hearing aid audiologist so i take it you have had your hearing checked out yes? right, next, a personal hearing device.....

can't think of making on from scratch, just think for what you would spend buying components you are better off going for something like the one above which i think looks like a hands free blue tooth kit.
I am a hearing aid audiologist too - (tubeway RHAD MSHAA) - and I agree with wibbly pig - but this is if you have normal hearing. If you have a hearing loss you may require more amplification at certain frequencies.
Have you had you hearing checked - if it is OK then why not just move nearer to the music.
A car!
Right here is what you need to solve your problem.
1: a condenser microphone
2: a small mixer with phantom power
3: a head phone amp.
4:a good set of head phones

plug them all in and bob is your uncle.
thats what i use when having a bad hearing day!!!
