ooooh, good!! Not that I was planning on getting the ring then dumping him!

All women think (and expect) that!

Traditionally I thought it was upon the birth of the 1st child. Nowadays you get it when it's given!

I also thought it was on the birth of first child - and encouraged my hubbie to get it for me then! We chose one with diamonds and sapphires - the birthstone of my son's month as well (happens that's one of my favourite stones anyway). Don't think there are any hard and fast rules though!!!!
I have no idea when its officially supposed to be but I got my eternity ring on our first anniversary :)

as others have answered its mainly given at birth of first child.

I had to wait until my son was 6 months old before my partner could afford it though :)

My friend got an eternity ring from her man when she found out she was preganant with their first child. They aren't going to get married but she wears her eternity ring on her wedding finger.
I think it is on the birth of the 1st child
I thought 1st child originally but then i was told its 1st year of marriage, whichever.its the 1st!!
Lol, trust me to be different then, Mr Boo bought me mine when I had to go into hospital to have my wisdom teeth out, to cheer me up!
Aah boo thats so sweet.at least he was thinking of you!!!
There's no right or wrong answer to this one, it's when both of you feel it's right. My Husband bought me mine a few months before our second Wedding anniversary, since it was also our tenth year together and he felt we could afford it then. I've heard people getting them when their first child is born, but I'd be worried it wouldn't fit once my weight had settled! Remember it doesn't have to be a ring, but have fun choosing one whenever you decide to go for it!

Octavious and co are right, It was tradition for eternity rings to be given after the birth of the 1st baby but each to their own as they say:-))
