Do you mean "BLACKlight"? If so, you see the UV light converted to visible wavelengths by whatever it falls on.

so in general can humans see UV?
Question Author
thanks, I am in a discussion with someone about my toilet light (which BTW is the most fabulous thing in the world).
It gives you a few colours and after a few minutes, it supposedly puts UV light in the toilet.
she is saying she can't see it doing that. I maintain she wont be able to - who is right?
Doesn't UV light kill germs? If that is the case perhaps your light emits UV + some visible light to help sanitise the toilet.
Just because you can't see UV light doesn't mean your toilet light isn't emitting it.
Question Author
that's my point zacs.
There are 2 bulbs - 1 for the disco colours and 1 for the UV.
I think the UV is sometimes emitted with blue making it visible.
Question Author
ok thanks all, we will just have to agree to disagree :)
Strange how some people think they know better than proven science, ain't it.
Where can I buy disco lights for my toilet?
Blimey I wdnt arriss around with UV light
The dazzling whiteness of sheets washed and drying in sunlight is meant to be UV. Insects deffo can but they have very different eyes

phosporescence and fluorescence both have articles on wiki
( take in UV light and give out coloured light)
Night clubs used to have UV lights - lit up your lenses ( the real one s in the eye) in what I thought was a most unhealthy fashion

then they were taken off the market
for rather obvious predictable reasons
No humans can see UV light. Anyone who claims they can is mistaken. It's out of our visible range. Same with infrared.
