Now I have some idea about fusion etc but I have no idea whether this is another "cold fusion" situation or could it actually work. jim360 will probably help out here!

I can't :P.

I read the article, but it essentially says that the idea is being worked on behind closed doors. Couldn't possibly hope to evaluate it without knowing what it actually is. I hope it works, though, because fusion in principle could solve most energy problems all on its own.

ok jim just thought you may have prior knowledge.
Reads like a spoof to me

Fusion is possible. It really is. It is thirty y away or nearer. People are working hard on this. They really are. Some are as bright as Jim. No brighter. When it arrives it will be wonderful but it is so so secret.....
Skunk works are not immune to leaks.
Seems rather optimistic though.
When we do get 'fusion power' it will wipe out oil, gas, coal and any conventional fuel including Nuclear fission at a stroke. Think what that will do to the 'balance of power' no more being held to ransom by the Arab 'oil states' or by Russia for gas supply. The oil companies worthless ! I would imagine that air transport would be the only need for oil based fuel as everything else could be electric powered as electricity would be virtually free.
