A shadow is just a comparative lack of light. If there's no light, what other colour would you expect it to be?

Factors would be the size of the body creating the shadow (shielding the light) the size, angle and distance of the light source.

Homework question?
Eh? Mine's green!

The shadow will be c reated by the blocking of the main light source but the colour of the shadow will depend upon secondary light sources.  On a clear sunny day, the shadows can be blue - lit from the blue sky.  Nearby objects can reflect light and so the colour of such objects as a painted wall can affect the colour of the shadow.  Lastly, the eye can be fooled by a number of factors and the perceived colour may not be the actual colour of the shadow.

Definitely not black, not since Henry Ford's day. Shadows come in a multitude of colours now, my favourite is silver.
