While I think the idea is a wee bit silly myself, does any health professional realy have the right to try to make women ( and men for that matter) feel they are 'over-celebrating' the forthcoming arrival of their child? I have to say that Prof Cathy Warwick has fair got up my nose with her high handed approach that parties to welcome and unborn baby raise ' ethical questions'. What a load of old rubbish- what does anyone else think?

Sorry for the typos - bad head day apparently:(
hmmm...We are expected at a "Foetus Party",Darling...not for me,ta!
Eggs in a basket... Do not celebrate until there is a safe arrival imo.
I've never even heard of a foetus party, it must be a middle class thing because none of my working class friends and relatives have ever had one.

Well no nor me to be honest Zhukov, but I do resent that the powers that be seem to think it's okay to dictate what you ought and ought not to do with something that really is very personal to you and your partner. Frankly if I paid for a 4d scan of my partner and our unborn child I'm free to do whatever the hell I like with it- no need for some woman who doesn't know the people concerned to try to suck the joy out of everything.
Alba.agreed........ assuming that these eggs are to be hatched ?
Is she American? (sorry if she isn't but I do have a thing about fancy-namby things which should remain personal)
Preceded by an embryo party?
Question Author
No alba it's the head of the Royal college of Midwaives saying that showing your friends scan pictures at an organised party to celebrate you being pregnant is unethical. I might thign the whole organised thing to be silly, but I think people can do without having their joy policed.
"such parties - where people gather to view 3D and 4D scan pictures that have been paid for privately"

that's a party ? why not get excited when you look at your scan ?

i think the news story os bollux. for a minute i thought it was a baby shower thing.
Question Author
Exactly, I think most people get excited and show everyone scan pictures, it's just a normal thing, and the fact that some clever little entrepreneur has thought of organising parties is just good on them, if people are daft enough to pay £165 per head, but it still doesn't need to be policed by some woman who seems to feel she's the incarnate on earth of the Goddess of Childbirth. she apparently thinks that the more excited prospective parents get the more likely they are to have high expectations of the birth process- well good- they should and midwives ought to try to accomodate that.
Some people would prefer to keep their scan pictures private for a huge number of reasons.
I'd have thought the Royal College of Midwives would be better advised to realise that they are not blooming perfect when it comes to advising women in labour.
That's another story. I can get aerated about midwives
Midwives also have to pick up the pieces when something goes wrong. Pregnancy and birth are not guaranteed. People who celebrate a life in this manner, before it even exists outside the womb...are setting themselves up for a much harder fall.
I've never heard of a foetus party.
im sure this " idea" would have originated in USA,next new thing will be " we are trying to conceive parties "! unethical ? no.
We have conceived! Hoorah! We have created life! I am superwoman. Let's get together and congratulate each other.

Yes, darling, we finally worked out what our front bums were for!

Sorry darling, did you miss my "Positive Pregnancy Test" Party?

It was a few weeks after our "We've Had A Shag" Barbecue.

Oh, let them enjoy it I say.

LOL
Question Author
Quite Anne, I pesonally think they are a silly idea, but in no way unethical- that's just daft.

I love you Jayne;-)
I just read that article...distinct aroma of "someone is playing with my magic toy waaaaa, gonna throw my rattle out of the pram"
I can remember many years ago a friend of mine having a scan and asking for a copy of the image. The operator said "Its our policy not to give parents copies as its clinical document and they might misuse it"
NOX ... x
