2 people are walking along a beach in the USA and see a man being washed up on shore. They run to aid him. When they pulled him out they asked his name and wheres he from. His reply is, im Earl and im from britain. Its took me an hour to get here. The 2 people look in disbelief, how is that possible?

i dont know the answer, im trying to find out? Its realy hard! Any help will be realy appreciated! ~Thanks
Odd that there was a program on Channel 4 last week called 'My name is Earl'
He might come from Britain, but it doesn't necessarilly mean he came fro Britain then. He could be British, and staying somewhere nearby, went for a swim, blah , blah, blah or maybe fell off a liner and swam to shore.
"The 2 people look in disbelief, how is that possible?"

Easy. They let their jaws drop and look wide-eyed.

... or should the question be rephrased?
Just a lateral thinking guess:

He's visiting the USA on holiday from Britain, went out on a lilo in the sea, out too far, panicked and struggled for an hour to reach the shore. He's a poor swimmer.

Maybe the 2 people were Red Indians, about 500 years ago and looked agog when they were answered in English.
There is a town in the Washington area called Britain... which is located in Loudoun County, Virginia...This could have made it possible.
If he came from britain in a hour to america I,d say he was early. Who was washing him .I would have asked them be cause it seems like old earl has had to much of the sun.
he fell overboard off a ship he probably didnt mean it took him an hour to get from britain
